JOB PURPOSE:    
An Engineering Manager to lead a section within the DCR division within ICS Global Engineering organization.  As a First line manager, the incumbent will provide leadership to a section primarily focused on providing Engineering design, development, detailing services for various Components and Reman products.

JOB RELATED STATISTICS:

Total Operating Expenses: Less than $2 Million
Personnel: Manage a team of 20 Full time employees and 25+ Contract employees

Job Duties:

As an Engineering Manager, you will coach, guide and facilitate the development of a workgroup. The supervision role accounts for up to 100% of this assignment. The remainder of the time, the incumbent acts as an individual contributor, bringing technical expertise to the project as well.  The incumbent needs to coach and facilitate relationship building within the team, with clients, suppliers, other cross functional groups to ensure goals are achieved.

Program/project management skills and organizational skills are critical. Project management activities includes, resource planning, project allocation, tracking and status reporting to meet client expectations on quality, velocity, and cost. You would be accountable for managing the budget, resources, and expenses for the section.

Position requires excellent human relations, interpersonal, and communications skills.  Ability to draw upon the role-based competencies of Managing Vision & Purpose, Motivating Others, Developing Others, and Listening.  Ever increasing skills in the Caterpillar Leadership competencies.

You would consciously create and maintain an organizational climate / culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement / commitment and a sense of urgency towards business success. You would be responsible for continuous process improvement activities, to improve the key performance deliverables. You would also provide people leadership inclusive of coaching, career planning and performance  management.

The incumbent would set strategy at the section level.  The section would solve problems for a technology, component, product, or process. Project scope will vary from a moderate technical focus on a component, product, or sub-product, and will require incumbent to broaden business understanding. The ability to draw upon foundational product development skills such as conceptual design, development of product and/or process, data analysis & extraction, failure resolution & prevention, and requirements management is required. This role requires that the incumbent increases understanding of product technology and process and the customers’ business and needs.  

To make decisions, this position will work with immediate work group or project team, division/business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and the market, typically impacting a product, process, or factory. Decisions may also affect warrantees, sales, customer perception, and the product through technology and core competency.  

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:   
Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum plus 13-15 years of previous experience or a master’s degree in an Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum plus 9-12 years of previous experience or a doctorate degree in Engineering plus 5-6 years of previous experience.

Project Management experience, Stakeholder management experience, Experience of managing teams with over 10 direct employees & proven leadership skills.

Desired Skills:

6 Sigma  experience

Product Development experience in Cabs, Components, Hydraulics, Remanufacturing.
