Engineering Intern
We have an exciting opportunity for a **Summer 2025 Engineering Intern** to join the team We are seeking an Engineering Intern to support the design, fabrication, and testing of prototype components for the Department of Defense’s Underwater Launch Test Capability (ULTC) program. The selected intern will gain hands-on experience working on classified prototype systems, supporting engineering efforts focused on underwater deployment, launch dynamics, and system integration in a controlled, high-security environment. Key Responsibilities: • Assist in the design and modeling of mechanical parts and systems using CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD). • Support prototype fabrication efforts using 3D printing, CNC machining, and other in-house tools. • Participate in basic electro-mechanical testing and documentation of results. • Shadow engineers and contribute to design reviews, integration planning, and test execution. • Help prepare engineering documentation, including drawings, reports, and change summaries. • Learn and apply DoD engineering standards and practices (including ITAR, MIL-STD). • Support day-to-day project activities with attention to detail, confidentiality, and schedule. Knowledge, skills & abilities required: Basic Qualifications: • Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (rising junior/senior preferred). • Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is required. • Strong interest in defense engineering, rapid prototyping, and electrical and/or mechanical systems. • Coursework or project experience in electro-mechanical design, materials, manufacturing, or fluid/thermal systems. • Proficiency in CAD software and basic familiarity with electro-mechanical testing tools and prototyping equipment. • Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills. • Ability to work in a secure, deadline-driven environment with sensitivity to proprietary or classified work. Desired Qualifications : + Active or pending Secret clearance is a plus. + Prior internship, co-op, or academic project experience in DoD, aerospace, or defense sectors. + Exposure to 3D printing, machine shop tools, or high-pressure system design. + Familiarity with GD&T and design for manufacturability concepts. Training & Certifications: Working towards Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical engineering, or related discipline preferred Guidelines (level of supervision required to perform): + The supervisor sets the overall objectives and resources available. + The employee and supervisor, in consultation, develop the deadlines, projects, and work to be done + At this level the employee is responsible for planning and carrying out the assignment; resolving most of the conflicts which arise; coordinating the work with others as necessary, and interpreting policy on own initiative + In some assignments, the employee also determines the approach to be taken and the methodology to be used The employee keeps the supervisor informed of progress, potentially controversial matters, far-reaching implications, or intractable problems Complexity of tasks/responsibilities: + The employee uses judgment and originality by interpreting data, planning the work, and refining the methods and techniques being used Uses judgment in researching, choosing, interpreting, modifying, and applying available guidelines for adaptation to specific problems or issues Work scope may include any/all of the following duties: • Assist in the design and modeling of electrical and mechanical parts and systems using CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD). • Support prototype fabrication efforts using MATLAB suite of tools, 3D printing, CNC machining, and other in-house tools. • Participate in basic electrical and/or mechanical testing and documentation of results. • Shadow engineers and contribute to design reviews, integration planning, and test execution. • Help prepare engineering documentation, including drawings, reports, and change summaries. • Learn and apply DoD engineering standards and practices (including ITAR, MIL-STD). • Support day-to-day project activities with attention to detail, confidentiality, and schedule. *This list is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities. Essential Functions: Physical Requirements: + Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. + Light to moderate. Exposed to active construction site. Work Environment: + Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task. + An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting). + Outside work may include various environmental conditions including warm and cold climates. + Needs to be able to work well with co-workers and all levels of management. Equipment and Machines: + Ability to operate office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment including desk supplies and other work related tools as required. Attendance: + Regular hours will be between Monday-Thursday 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. + Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines. + Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements. Other Essential Functions: + Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. + Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written. + Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others. + Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner. + Independent personal transportation to office or work site is required. + May be required to travel up to 10% + This may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary. + When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.
