Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use. **_Purpose of the Position:_** _To lead and/or participate on project teams to develop new manufacturing technology for the purposes of reducing cost, increasing capacity and/or improving product._ **_Day to Day Responsibilities:_** _• Supervise team of engineers and technicians that support the equipment & processes_ _• Assist with identification of cost reduction, capability, and capacity improvement efforts_ _• Sponsor and lead projects target at cost reduction, new products, safety, quality, increased capacity and other strategic initiatives_ _• Coordinate Production support efforts to maximize performance (selects, utilization, output) and minimize manufacturing costs_ _• Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects_ _• Assist with adjustments to priorities as dictated by business conditions_ _• Provide coaching to team members to assist with their professional development, particularly technical development through fundamental understanding (PEx, MEE, scientific method)_ _• Actively work with team members to define and update career plans_ _• Develop/maintain short and long term strategies to improve process performance, achieve cost reductions targets and maximize efficiency of support resources_ _• Sponsor and lead projects target at cost reduction, new products, safety, quality, increased capacity and other strategic initiatives_ **_Travel Requirements:_** _minimal (less than 5%)_ **_Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:_** + _Monday-Friday. The position is overtime exempt. Overtime is not uncommon and is expected at times, however the amount and duration will vary as a function of business needs._ **_Required Education:_** + _BS or MS in Chemical, Materials, Mechanical or Electrical engineering OR degree in other Engineering discipline with demonstrated capability in working in engineering_ **_Required Years and Area of Experience:_** _• Leadership experience in functional or project role(s)_ _• 3 or more years’ experience in Manufacturing and/or Engineering_ **_Required Skills:_** _• Ability to make sound technical decisions within and outside area of expertise_ _• Strong communications skills and customer orientation_ _• Ability to work effectively on all levels of an organization_ _• Project management capability, particularly coordination of multiple, inter-related tasks_ _• Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment_ _• Knowledge of fiber optical and physical parameters including the factors that affect them_ _• Use scientific method and engineering first principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well-designed and executed processes_ _• Basic skills for data collection and data analysis_ **_Desired Skills:_** _• Supervisory skills, particularly in coaching technical employees_ _• Six Sigma/DMAIC Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification_ _• Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting (budget tracking/spending)_ _• Project management experience_ _• MEE practitioner and supervisor training_ **_Soft Skills:_** _• Work well both within a multi-disciplinary team and independently with minimal oversight_ _• Ability to coach and develop others_ _• Strong communication and presentation skills_ **This position does not support immigration sponsorship.** The range for this position is $125,900.00 - $173,113.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
