Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff. Work Location City Tower - 100 W. Houston St. San Antonio, Texas 78205 Work Hours 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday Essential Job Functions + Performs the necessary preliminary work for the design and construction of public works projects. + Directs subordinate personnel in the performance of all preparatory work (depending on area of assignment). + Revises project plans and specifications and legal requirements. + Inspects construction in progress for conformance with plans and specifications and makes adjustments when necessary. + Coordinates with other divisions, departments, or municipal agencies on projects under design. + Meets with consultants on various projects to discuss designs and design problems. + Prepares cost estimates and monitors budgets on assigned projects. + Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding assigned projects. + Provides technical assistance to other divisions and departments. + Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Job Requirements + Bachelor's Degree in an engineering field from an accredited college, university, or engineering school approved by a State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and no experience. + No substitution for education allowed. + Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications + Civil Engineering Degree. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of engineering principles and practices. + Knowledge of engineering mathematics. + Knowledge of surveying and drafting principles and practices. + Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment. + Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing rudimentary software. + Ability to learn Federal and State regulations and City ordinances related to the area assigned. + Ability to determine types of field data needed as basis for satisfactory design and develop complete construction plans. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public. + Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. + Ability to interpret and properly apply all applicable regulations. + Ability to perform engineering calculations.
