ABS Government Engineering Services (GES) is looking for an Engineer I/II to assist with ship systems and machinery drawing reviews. This person will perform engineering design review and analysis assignments normally involving a major project or several smaller US Government projects. These projects by nature of their complexity and difficulty require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular field of engineering or science. Through broader and more technically challenging work assignments, the ideal candidate will develop a thorough understanding of policies, methods, and procedures.
Individual will support U.S. government agencies (US Navy, US Military Sealift Command (MSC), US Coast Guard, MARAD, NOAA, etc.) by performing various classification and certification services for surface vessels.
Individual will need to be U.S. Citizen. Must have or be able to attain a security clearance.
The successful candidate will work in person at ABS Office in Spring, Texas.
What You Will Do:
Under the supervision of an experienced engineer or engineering manager, performs detailed engineering review of ship’s system and equipment design drawings, engineering change notices, etc.as assigned for compliance with applicable Rules, Regulations, and contract specific requirements. Support client resolution of deviations including justification for technical determinations. Perform work which involves conventional engineering practices including complex problem resolution of conflicting design requirements, material standards or the coordination of activities among other disciplines. Provide technical advice to field operations / surveyors and other technical offices within ABS. Liaise with USCG for technical interpretations, equivalencies, or exemptions. Propose new approaches to problems encountered and make recommendations for changes in rules, methods, procedures, or designs. Draft technical correspondence and other forms of communication for internal and external distribution. May act independently as the responsible engineer-in-charge for large and/or complex projects. The Engineer position is a professional-level technical position, with limited responsibility for performing management tasks. However, may assume project management responsibility for smaller projects, or for subtasks of larger or complex projects. Attend meetings and reading session to support U.S. government agencies.What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
B.S. degree in Marine, Mechanical, or other related disciplines Applicant must have a minimum of 2 years of relevant military or government vessel experience and be familiar with marine systems and machinery designs. Engineering experience in a shipyard, NASEA, USCG, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society is preferred. Applicant must be a US Citizen with the ability to successfully obtain and maintain Secret Clearance. Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Candidate must possess the ability to multi-task, work well in a team environment, but also have the focus and discipline to work independently. Candidate should have a meticulous and detail-oriented demeanor with a desire to work in a design review capacity. Knowledge of related technical disciplines. Knowledge of applicable Rules and Regulations and the impact of Rule applications and interpretations. Knowledge of company business policies and procedures. The human relations skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts and provide leadership and motivation to subordinate staff and peers. Ability to identify, analyze and solve complex or unique engineering problems. Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning to provide for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing. Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.It Would Be Nice If You Had
Professional or chartered engineer license.
Reporting Relationships:
The incumbent generally reports to a Principal Engineer but may report to others depending on the specific of assignment. This position does not have any direct reports.
