Engineer, Senior Principal

The Engineer, Senior Principal will be responsible for managing process safety management (PSM) engagements with clients at locations around the U.S., but international locations may be possible if desired. Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for conducting PSM audits, leading and/or scribing PHAs/LOPAs, and performing related consulting activities for a wide variety of clients across all industries (e.g., refining, petrochemical, oil & gas production, chemical, pulp & paper, pharmaceutical, consumer products, etc.).

What You Will Do:

Participate in and/or lead PSM and/or RMP compliance audits Lead Scribe Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs) using a variety of methods (HAZOP, What-if, checklists, etc.) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) to provide risk identification/assessment Be client-facing, having a proven record of building and maintaining positive and professional client relationships Prepare, conduct onsite activities, and write recommendations and reports for PSM/RMP audits  Prepare, facilitate, and write recommendations and reports for PHAs (using HAZOP, what-if, checklists, etc.) Collaborate directly with clients on technical aspects of the projects and can communicate technical requirements and deliverables clearly and concisely Undertake short- and long-term planning to provide efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments.  Apply critical thinking to a wide variety of problems. Comprehend and analyze complex problems. 

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably chemical or mechanical engineering discipline At least 15 years of process safety experience and knowledge of OSHA’s process safety management (PSM) standard (29 CFR 1910.119) and/or EPA’s rule on risk management programs (40 CFR 68) Experience in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry, refinery experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledgeable/proficient with Microsoft Word Ability to read and understand process drawings (e.g., PFD, and P&ID) Excellent skills in facilitating group meetings and engaging teams  The ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means, and able to adapt communication to best reach the intended audience within or outside the organization  Willing to travel to assignments Proficient or adept at learning to conduct client team meetings “remotely” via Web (TEAMS, WebEx, etc.) Knowledge of department related technical disciplines and technical products and services provided to clients.  The human relations skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts and to provide leadership and motivation to subordinate staff and peers Working knowledge of the ABS Health, safety, quality and environmental management systems

Reporting Relationships:

Reports directly to Manager level position or above.
