Endoscopy Technician - Per Diem & Contract - Manhattan

The Endoscopy Technician provides assistance to the physicians during endoscopic procedures. To provide a safe working environment. To care for instruments and equipment being used during the procedures. To anticipate the needs of the Endoscopist during the procedure and to plan and prepare appropriately.   Responsibilities: Assists physician with all types of endoscopic procedures by using universal precautions, following orientation, competency tools, obtaining and recording patient’s data during procedure such as vital signs, etc. Verifies patient’s name, companion, and type of procedure. Prepares room, including physical environment, appropriate endoscope, and supplies needed, acts per Endoscopy policy and procedures. Prompter of therapeutic environment by providing patient care in accordance with the hospital patient comfort measures and departmental policy and procedures. Maintains equipment in excellent condition and reports equipment malfunction to the nurse in charge by cleaning and testing the equipment to make sure it is working correctly. Cleans procedure room following procedures including endoscopes and accessories. Enters all patient data into Image Manager Computer System as trained by manufacturer. Collects and labels all specimens obtained from the patient during endoscopic procedures following hospital and Endoscopy guidelines. Assures patient comfort directed by Nurse, taking into consideration the appropriate age of the patient. Stocking and maintaining of supplies and equipment in procedure rooms on a daily basis. Participates in staff meetings, attends in-services led by manufacturer representative of product and other conferences to update and maintain knowledge and skills in the Endoscopy field. Performs secretarial duties. Performs transporter and messenger duties when assigned by Head Nurse. Performs related duties, as required.
  Requirements and Qualifications: High School Graduate or GED equivalency, required. Minimum of one (1) year experience in health care, required.  Nursing attendant experience preferred. Computer literate with knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, and Olympus Image Manager, required. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Self-starter, team player, works well under pressure with strong interpersonal and manual dexterity skills, required.  BLS through the American Heart Association
