Endoscopy Technician
+ Please note the hours for this role: 72 hours bi-weekly, primarily days from 7:00am-3:30pm, with weekends & weeknights call. + + GENERAL SUMMARY + The Endoscopy Technician assists the Registered Nurse and Proceduralist during endoscopic procedures. The endoscopy technician provides a safe and efficient environment for the endoscopy patient under the direction of the registered professional nurse within a defined scope of practice. Supports the cleaning, High Level Disinfection, and sterilization of endoscopic equipment following best practices, accepted standards, and regulatory bodies. Maintains an aseptic work setting in support of physicians and nurses during endoscopy procedures. Reports to the Sterile Processing Manager. + ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES + Inspects, assembles and tests endoscopic instrumentation for proper functioning. + Performs scheduled maintenance on equipment (i.e.: clean filters and drains). + Disassembles and cleans endoscopes at point of use. + Assembles, processes, and stores re-usable instruments according to the manufacturer’s instructions for use. + Assists with preparing and moving patients, cleaning, and room set up. + Places devices such as blood pressure cuffs and cardiac electrodes to monitor patients’ vital signs during procedures. + Prepares for specimen collection and handling during procedures. + Performs routine maintenance procedures related to High Level Disinfection (HLD) and storage equipment following the manufacturer’s instructions for use. + Maintains inventory for cleaning and HLD supplies. + Complies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional. + Performs other duties as assigned. + LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS + National certification as a Central/Sterile Processing Technician or equivalent preferred. May be required after one year of hire. + BLS-HCP Certification required and/or must be obtained within 30 days of hire. + MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS + High school graduate or equivalent. + Endoscopy technician training through the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses Association (SGNA) required. + Central/Sterile Processing experience and/or completion of Central Service/Sterile Processing Technician course preferred. + Knowledge of different types of sterilization materials and equipment. + Ability to work effectively within role, independently and with other team members. + Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner. + WORKING CONDITIONS + Surgical areas work environment with frequent exposure to unpleasant odors from disinfectant solutions/chemicals. Possible exposure to infectious agents when handling instruments or hazardous materials.
