Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case. **Summary:** The Endoscopy Technician works under the direction of a physician, department leadership, and/or registered nurse. Provides support to the Endoscopy department before, during and after procedures. The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for the maintenance and disinfecting of all endoscopic equipment. The Endoscopy Technician assists physicians with the technical components of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures as assigned. Duties are of a technical nature requiring specialized training and skill. The Endoscopy Technician demonstrates the ability to care for patients of all ages in the clinical setting. This role provides individualized patient care in a friendly compassionate, ethical manner, throughout pre-procedure, intra-procedure and post-procedure. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. **Other information:** **Required Job Qualifications:** • High school diploma or equivalent. • Two years current Endoscopy experience required. • Current GI Technical Specialist (GTS) certification or Advanced GTS • Current experience with decontamination and reprocessing of all instrumentation used in assigned department; according to regulatory agency requirements and standards set forth by professional organizations and institutional policies. • Prior clinical training. This may include CMS, CNA, PCT, EMT, corpsman, or paramedic training. • Successful completion of the institutional screening examination. • Current CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. • Advanced knowledge of GI anatomy and aseptic techniques. • Problem solving skills. • Excellent communication and customer service skills. • Basic computer skills. **Preferred Job Qualifications:** • Advanced Life Support. • Associate Degree or higher. • Patient Care Technician Certification or Certified Medical Assistant. • Accredited Phlebotomy and /or PIV training and course completion. **Physical Demands:** • Ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift. • Lifting or carrying objects 35-40 lbs. and supporting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300 lbs. • Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents. • The ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter and retrieve data, and closely examine specimens, images or reports is required. **Responsibilities:** 1. Demonstrate accurate cleaning and disinfecting procedures for all endoscopes and accessory equipment 2. Adheres to Infection Control Guidelines when cleaning and disinfecting equipment. 3. Participates in all patient satisfaction initiatives. 4. Reports endoscopic equipment failure to supervisor. 5. Maintains equipment logs related to scope inventory, repairs and cleaning. 6. Participates in evaluation of new equipment. 7. Reports to Charge RN or designate for assignment of duties. Maintains a safe patient environment. 8. Sets priority of duties based on needs of patient and unit, under the direction of the RN. 9. Under the direction of the RN, participates in the implementation of plans for patient care. 10. Accurately obtains patient data and documents in the appropriate patient care record. 11. Performs routine procedures, treatments and specimen collections (blood glucose, urine, etc). 12. Demonstrates aseptic technique, as appropriate. 13. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific variables and growth and development. 14. Promptly reports changes in patient condition to the appropriate RN. 15. Assists Physicians & Nurses with various endoscopic procedures 16. Sets up procedure rooms including logging in to procedure documentation software. 17. Prepares the patient before the start of the procedure. 18. Assists with dilatations, polypectomies and obtaining tissue specimens. 19. Prepares and maintains endoscopic equipment during procedures, including electro-cautery, heating probes, endoscopic light source. 20. Assists with admission, discharge, and transport of patients. 21. Transports laboratory specimens and patient belongings as required. 22. Obtains blood products, supplies and equipment as necessary. 23. Competently utilizes technology. Maintains an orderly, well equipped environment 24. Keeps procedure rooms orderly, according to unit routine. Independently orders, organizes, and restocks according to unit specifications. Replenishes procedure room supplies. Maintains emergency supplies. 25. Demonstrates a professional work style in interactions with internal and external customers. 26. Communicates all pertinent information to the appropriate team member. 27. Negotiates break time and communicates departure and return time per unit protocol. 28. Demonstrates initiative and self-direction in work habits. 29. Supports the Rush mission and values. **Other Duties:** Intravenous Line Insertion/Phlebotomy • Under direction of the physician and supervision of a registered nurse, the Endoscopy Technician II will insert peripheral intravenous lines (PIV) and applies dressing in compliance with hospital and unit procedure. • Demonstrates basic understanding of procedure to be performed ensuring proper placement of PIV line to not interfere with planned procedure • Provides instruction/information to patient/significant other concerning placement of IV line/care being provided. • Assists in emergency situations as needed. • Under the direction of physician and supervision of a registered nurse, performs phlebotomy as assigned. • Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
