Job Description:

Software and Hardware Support:
Install operating systems and other required software on newly purchased or rebuilt departmental computers. Install, update, and remove hardware and software on existing computers. Update and install new programs on the ABE virtual server. Should be comfortable entering a computer chassis and be familiar with safe computer hardware servicing practices. Familiarity with the Windows, MacOS and Linux operating systems are required.  Stays informed on current computer hardware standards in order to make appropriate recommendations for computer hardware solutions that satisfy user requirements.

IT Support of ABE Department:
Resolve IT ticket requests submitted via the UF/IFAS ticket system; maintain classroom and conference room a/v equipment; offer videoconferencing on-line/hybrid teaching support; generate and maintain IT service records and SOPs; and, upon request, train faculty, graduate students, and staff members on the use of fundamental programs and/or new tech hardware; and other IT support tasks as needed. Provide technical support and evaluation for new technical needs as they arise. For example, reviewing a faculty member’s research process to determine the best hardware to purchase, or services to utilize, to meet the computing requirements of their research.
Utilize interpersonal communication skills to successfully interact with clients and teammates, maintaining a comfortable working environment and providing quality service. Assess a client’s current knowledge-base and skill level when providing support, and then adapt approaches, responses, and/or instructions accordingly. Analyze customer’s business needs and develop technical requirements, prepares quotes, and configures solutions to meet these needs.  Balance current, pending, and new tasks and autonomously prioritize tasks according to most important and urgency. Provide support for online forms and other data related automated processes for the department.

IT Security and Maintaining Network Resources:
Resolve UF Incident Response Team alerts, which range from simple Java updates to addressing reports of malware. Maintain a repository of installation files and product codes of UF/departmental software. Manage private folder permissions on ABE servers, network printers, and departmental email distribution lists. Remove malicious software from departmental computers. Serve as ABE representative on appropriate college IT committees. 

Diagnostics:
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues on departmental computers. Isolates and fixes moderate to highly complex computer operating systems and application software problems.

Special Projects and Other Duties as Assigned:
Complete requests and assigned duties from the position’s supervisor or department chair.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree and four years of appropriate experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and 6 years of relevant experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate of required experience.
