Job Summary: The Recreation Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, budgeting, and execution of employee recreation activities in Yellowstone National Park. This role involves managing personnel, facilities, and resources to deliver diverse and engaging programs while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and National Park Service standards. The position requires strong financial management skills, including budget creation and presentation, as well as the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to meet the recreational needs of employees working in the park. The Details: Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays) Why Yellowstone National Park? Responsibilities Responsible for the planning, creation, and execution of the annual budget for the program. This position will be required to present their financial plan to the oversight Board on an annual basis. Responsible for the hiring, training, and evaluation of recreation personnel in coordinating with the Director, Human Resources, Xanterra Parks and Resorts. Responsible for the purchasing of inventory and distribution of all program equipment and supplies for each recreation facility and/or activity. Responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and reporting damages for all indoor and outdoor recreation facilities. Responsible for compliance with annual National Park Service facility inspections, follow up on all noted deficiencies, and reporting the status of work to appropriate personnel. Responsible for creating and distributing information related to employee recreation events. Will ensure each location is producing a weekly calendar advising employees of upcoming events. Responsible for working with Xanterra Parks and Resorts to help develop annual capital spending plan. Responsible for oversight of fleet vehicle usage, tracking mileage, ensuring staff have valid driver’s licenses and comply with driver safety requirements. This position will develop and incorporate safety programs for all events and will ensure proper compliance from field offices. No recreation events are to include alcohol at any time. This position will work closely with representatives from all agencies that hire staff that work in Yellowstone to ensure the needs of their employees are being met. This position will monitor and evaluate similar recreation programs in the region to ensure employee activities are up to date and current with local trends. Qualifications Minimum three years or equal experience in recreation coordination leadership preferred. Position requires a valid driver’s license. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Quick thinking skills and able to adapt to the constant pace of Yellowstone’s seasonal employee needs. Understanding of budget management and the ability to forecast spending needs to comply with the financial plan. Experience writing and reviewing work schedules to ensure proper use of labor and minimize unnecessary labor hours including overtime hours. Ability to recruit, retain, and lead a diverse workforce Experience in strategic and long term planning. Familiarity with laws and regulations as they relate to the hospitality industry, and an ability to keep abreast of this developing and complex field. Well-developed personal computer skills. Proven ability to build productive relationships by positively interacting with coworkers and clients. Ability to live in a remote, seasonally cold, rural environment Passion for National Parks, customer and employee experiences, and embracing the history of Yellowstone. Physical Requirements include: Ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to work in a higher altitude environment with changing weather conditions and temperatures. Ability to climb stairs. Ability to lift boxes of materials in weight up to 50 lbs. Ability to walk, reach, kneel, crawl, lay on stomach, and/or stand as necessary to perform job duties as noted.
