Emergency Specialist (Preparedness)

The Emergency Management Specialist (Preparedness) is responsible for developing and implementing preparedness grant program initiatives to reduce vulnerabilities and increase capabilities across the state. The position requires knowledge of financial principles and practices, as well as experience in project management. This position coordinates programmatic and financial aspects to grants such as: * Emergency Management Performance Grant * Homeland Security Grant Program * Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness Grant * State and Local Cyber Security Grant Program * Nonprofit Security Grant Program This position falls within the emergency management career ladder which establishes criteria for initial pay and pay increases, based on experience in all aspects of the profession. *Responsibilities:* * Provide technical assistance to local and tribal stakeholders in the development and management of preparedness grants. * Develop strategies, guidance and plans to effectively utilize funds. * Develop presentation materials in support of grant-related trainings and workshops. * Ensure compliance with federal regulations. * Research new methods, resources, techniques, and strategies with emergency planning and management. * Support development and administration of local, tribal, regional, and statewide disaster and emergency plans that integrate agency plans and resources at all levels. * Provide support to the State Emergency Coordination Center as needed. *This position is open until filled. The first review of applications will be on Monday, September 23, 2024. * * Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public administration, project management or a related field. * Four years of experience in emergency management. * Experience in project management and community engagement. * Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse audiences. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Ability to occasionally travel within the state and occasionally outside the state.
