**Job Summary**
The Emergency Medical Technician II (EMT II) is responsible for providing advanced pre-hospital care and emergency medical services to patients in both emergency and non-emergency situations. This role includes assessing patient conditions, performing life-saving interventions, and ensuring safe transport to medical facilities. EMT II operates under medical protocols and guidelines, working closely with paramedics, nurses, and physicians to deliver high-quality care in the field and at the facility.
**Essential Functions**
+ Responds to emergency calls and provides advanced life support (ALS) and basic life support (BLS) to patients in need of urgent medical care.
+ Assesses the condition of patients at the scene of an emergency, determining the nature of their injuries or illness and providing necessary medical interventions.
+ Administers first aid treatments, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bandaging wounds, controlling bleeding, immobilizing fractures, and assisting with breathing.
+ Operates emergency vehicles safely and efficiently, adhering to traffic laws and medical protocols for safe patient transport.
+ Communicates effectively with dispatchers, medical personnel, and patients, providing updates on patient condition and en route status.
+ Monitors and maintains medical equipment, ensuring all tools and supplies are in proper working order.
+ Maintains accurate documentation of patient care provided during transport, including vital signs, treatments administered, and response to interventions.
+ Collaborates with paramedics, nurses, and physicians to provide continuity of care upon patient transfer to a medical facility.
+ Adheres to established medical protocols, departmental policies, and legal regulations related to emergency medical services.
+ Participates in ongoing training and continuing education to maintain certifications and stay current on emergency medical procedures.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
**Qualifications**
+ Technical School Graduate of an accredited Paramedic Program required
+ 0-1 years Emergency department experience preferred
+ 0-1 years One year of experience working as a licensed Paramedic. required
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
+ Must be able to develop and maintain interpersonal skills, both with the public and the entire team.
+ Ability to follow direction of medical and nursing staff. Possess good communication skills (both written and verbal) with mastery of the English language.
+ Effective performance within a fast paced environment as well as the ability to meet multiple expectations, and perform more than one emergency related activity at a time.
+ Phlebotomy skills, operation of emergency equipment, cleaning of equipment, maintenance of supplies, moving of patients on stretchers, in wheelchairs, and ambulatory.
+ Administers skilled nursing care with appropriate documentation under the supervision of a registered nurse and the physician directed plan of treatment. Paramedicine will fall within the guidelines of the National Registry.
+ Paramedic will perform patient care under the license of the medical director of the emergency department.
+ Must be available and willing to float to another department as appropriately needed.
+ The Paramedic will perform skilled patient care under the direction of the medical director.
**Licenses and Certifications**
+ CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Within 90-days of hire required
+ EKG - Electrocardiogram Certification Within 90-days of hire required
+ IV - IV Certification during hospital orientation required
+ LP - Licensed Paramedic required
+ NRP - National Registered Paramedic required
+ Health Services\ACLS preferred
+ PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Within one year of employment preferred
**State Specific Requirements**
+ Arizona: PALS clinical practice will be as per the rule of the Arizona Nurse Practice Act
