Emergency Department Technician, Per Diem, Varied shift, 12hours

Summary

SUMMARY: The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) is responsible and accountable for the delivery of patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse, according to the philosophy and goals/objectives of the Department of Nursing. The EDT collects data and implements task specific functions as directed by the Registered Nurse. The EDT delivers care that is specific to the special behaviors / needs of the patient and is age appropriate for the individual, as well as, providing for the patient’s significant other’s. The EDT will not sub delegate tasks that have been delegated by the Registered Nurse. Distribution of staff and patients may require reassignment to other nursing areas.  Performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

1. Provides direct patient care within their scope of practice.

2. Delivers care that is specific to the developmental age and special needs/behaviors of the patient population served.

3. Completes basic physical observation on patients as assigned.

4. Collaborates with other members of the health care team.

5. Ensures that all charts have the appropriate forms in place. Accurately transcribes physician orders. Orders and restocks unit supplies.

6. Able to operate necessary computer programs

7. Operates computer for order entry, charge entry, ED Point of Care log, patient restraint log.

8. Promotes a safe environment for staff, patients, and family members.

9. Maintains patient and family dignity and confidentiality.

10. Supports the organizational mission, values, and goals when providing care.

11. Assumes an active role in supporting clinicians in the care of the patient:

12. Performs supportive functions that maintain smooth functioning of the clinical

area.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience: One year clinical experience pre-hospital care and/or acute care preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications: BLS - Basic Life Support Certification - issued by AHA-American Heart Association.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Must have one of the following certifications: EMT, or EMT-P, or CNA, and Phlebotomy Technician 1.

Required Licenses/Certifications: WPV - Work Place Violence Training. (required for all positions at John George Psychiatric Pavilion; and preferred for certain positions in the Emergency Department).

Additional Information

Note: Fast pace busy level 1 trauma center.  Work side by side with the triage nurse and provider, perform EKGs, blood draws and splints.  Self-scheduling requests & the ability to exchange shifts with other staff.
