Job Summary:
Successful electrical engineering design is a key component of developing new products for Chemical, Biological and Nuclear detection/identification. The Electronic Design Engineer will play a key role on project teams to perform product design and testing of integrated detection/identification related products on a DoD reconnaissance vehicle providing increased situational awareness and detection for battlefield hazard visualization. The Electronic Design Engineer will be responsible for various aspects of the product design to meet various commercial and military standards. The Electronic Design Engineer should be comfortable with rapidly prototyping and testing concepts. The Electronic Design Engineer will work in a multi-disciplinary and geographically dispersed project team, including engineers from other disciplines and scientists/chemists. Possible examples of designs include development of novel vehicle integrated sensor/detector storage and deployment solutions, schematic designs, power system design, actuator and motor control design, PCB design.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
May be responsible for any/all stages in the engineering lifecycle: requirements gathering, concept development, design, analysis, prototyping, testing, production release, maintenance and support.
Design innovative products and systems to interface with machines, hardware, and software.
Specify electrical and electro-mechanical components when required for cables, PCBs, and enclosure designs.
Evaluate designs using engineering principles and analysis techniques.
Rapid prototyping.
Generate or update power budgets.
Work alongside engineers of other disciplines to define material and space needs for cable designs, PCBAs, and electrical enclosures.
Contribute to Analysis of Material Alternatives.
Design and verify system grounds and bonds.
Hands-on assembly and continuity and load testing.
Generate or update system or sub-system schematics and wiring diagrams.
Hands-on assembly of electro-mechanical components such as cables and PCBAs.
Component and system level testing.
Submit Engineering Change Orders.
Vehicle integration of electrical systems including cable routing.
Create technical drawings and/or interface with drafter/designers to ensure design intent.
Interface with suppliers during product development to expedite and coordinate part deliveries and resolve design issues with suppliers.
Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
Interface with technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
Periodic travel for integration sessions at other sites and supporting build, test, or customer events.
Required Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Electrical Engineering or a related field and 3+ years of directly related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of designing with actuators and motor controllers.
Experience with soldering and de-soldering.
Experience generating schematics and/or cable drawings according to ASME, IEEE and/or Mil standards.
Familiar with EMI/RFI shielding techniques and materials.
Ability to work independently.
Proficiency in MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and MS Project.
Ability to work well within a geographically dispersed team.
Able and willing to travel as needed.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience with Jira and Confluence tools.
Proficiency in AutoCAD or SolidWorks Electrical.
Proficiency with Altium design tools.
Proficiency in ePDM.
Previous experience with military / DoD programs.
Experience with PCB layout design.
Familiarity with radio antennas.
