JOB SUMMARY
The Electrician, under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, is responsible for the proper
installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, wiring, switches, components, and
motors throughout Williamsburg Landing, including individual living units. This position
ensures all electrical equipment meets applicable safety standards and building codes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical systems; develops specific corrective plans for electricalproblems and malfunctioning systemsInstalls electrical circuits, meters, generators, and switching gears; supervises electricalassignmentsPerforms load tests monthly on generatorsMaintains appropriate inventory of tools, materials, and equipment in good working order onservice vehicles and in the electrical shop; requests additional materials on an as-needed basis andensures waste is kept to a minimumDevelops and follows preventive maintenance plan for routine inspections and change orreplacement of electrical components at various locations as required; conducts electrical safetychecks and inspectionsAssigns work to Facilities staff when assistance is needed for specific projects or work orders.Ensures appropriate tools and equipment for the job are availableMaintains interior and exterior lighting and electrical systemsAssists with major repairs of facility equipmentMonitors buildings regularly, identifies improperly operating equipment or components anddevelops repair or replacement plans, informing other managers of deficiencies as appropriateInforms Facilities Service Coordinator of problems concerning the upkeep of the buildings andelectrical systemsPerforms other facilities maintenance duties to include minor carpentry, plumbing, mechanical,and sheet metalAssists with renovating vacant units, as requiredEnsures tasks are completed and that residents know the status of repairs to their residences;respects residents’ surroundings and works in a clean, neat and professional fashionCompletes work order forms and maintains contact with Facilities department and supervisor forreassignment to jobs throughout the workdayServes as member of disaster and emergency response teams; fulfills assigned role in fire drillsand for snow removalAssumes on-call responsibility for approximately 2-3 weeks per year. Works weekend, overnight,and holiday hours as needed or as assigned.Performs other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS
High School degree or equivalent; Three to five (3-5) years’ experience in electrical construction
or repair and maintenance, required; valid Commonwealth of Virginia Electrician License and
Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license, required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of pertinent building codes and safety requirements; knowledge of tools and other
devices in the electrical field; ability to plan and install proper electrical systems for residential
and commercial applications; ability to troubleshoot and correct electrical problems; ability to
read electrical schematics and blueprints; ability to communicate effectively with senior adults
experiencing differing levels of physical and cognitive challenges; ability to use hand-held
communication equipment effectively and responsibly; ability to exercise sound professional
judgment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sustain hard work including, stooping, bending, reaching, climbing, crawling and other
physical labor for extended periods of time; ability to work overhead from ladders for sustained
periods of time; ability to work full shifts outside exposed to outdoor weather conditions and
temperature extremes; ability to work at roof top heights; ability to regularly and safely lift and
carry a minimum of 50 pounds
