Scope of Responsibility:

This position provides the expertise and technical support necessary to manage safety, health, medical, Workers’ Compensation and environmental programs within Sabre Industries. This position manages Sabre's efforts to prevent the occurrence of safety, health, medical and environmental issues and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local safety, health and environmental regulations. This requires that the incumbent remain up to date on current and proposed regulations and evaluate the impact on our day to day operations. This position along with the Human Resources Manager will act as the interface with Government Agencies that deal with health, safety and environmental issues. This includes, but is not limited to, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

 

Essential Duties:

Comply with all environmental, health and safety federal, state, local regulations and company policies.Employee may have responsibilities of handling, storing and/or shipping hazardous waste.Responsibilities may include the signing of manifests.To support management in providing a safe and healthful workplace, this position shall be responsible for the following:Perform Risk Assessments with all departments to determine the potential hazards of new processes and projects (capital projects and others) and ensure that all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations, along with industry standards, (ANSI, NFPA, ACGIH) are followed.Manage MSDS Program for materials used, received and/or processed at the facility.Determine the potential health effects of any new chemical under consideration for use within STS.Manage chemical, noise, and radiation exposure monitoring programs.Review and approve all safety equipment and procedures.Develop and implement JSA’s and training programs in the use of safety equipment including PPE, chemical hazards, noise hazards, physical hazards and safe operating practices, and help line management implement them.Maintains recordkeeping system for all safety training programs.Manage the accident elimination program by tracking and reporting accident rates and developing management's accident investigation techniques.Maintain the OSHA 300 log.Manage Workers’ Compensation program.Create and maintain partnerships with managers, supervisors, medical provider and workers comp carrier to manage workers comp claims and drive down related costs.Develop and implement emergency evacuation plans and procedures.Participate in management health, safety and environmental audits.Oversees employee safety committeeEnsures training and maintenance of procedures for first responder’s teams.Ensures company’s contractor safety and training compliance.Develops JSA’s and other S & E programs and trains employees, supervision and management in all areas of safety and environmental needs and requirements.To support management in complying with applicable environmental regulations, this position shall be responsible for the following:Manage hazardous waste disposal program, including all manifesting, disposal site selection, hazardous waste training, and internal tracking.Remain certified as being trained in hazardous waste management, as required by law.Examine all new processes and projects for environmental impact.Apply, track, and implement all environmental permits.Manage the monitoring of air and water discharges including, but not limited to, obtaining and remaining certified as a Visible Emissions Evaluator.Develop and implement emergency environmental response procedures,Act as Emergency Coordinator during an emergency situation at the facility.Develop, implement and manage Environmental Management System.Meet and or exceed all safety requirements.Reduce recordable accidentsReduce lost time accidentsReduce lost work daysEstablish and maintain programs that limit compliance exposure to governmental requirementsAdditional duties as assigned

 

Position Requirements:

BS/MS in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Engineering.Certified Safety Professional is preferred.Minimum 8 years occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental experience, preferably in steel manufacturing.Strong background in training employees, supervision and management in all areas of EH&S.A working knowledge of the applicable Federal, State, and Local laws is required.Familiarity with industry standards, such as NFPA (National Fluid Power Assn.), ANSI, OSHA, is required.Minimum 3 years supervising a staff as well as the function.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.Demonstrated ability to manage complex long term projects

 

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting and handling of materials.Must be able to work in an outside manufacturing environment for long shifts, including weekends.Position requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual.Must be able to work in an open environment exposed to extreme temperatures.Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sources.
