The Endeavor Health Medical Group governance and senior operations leadership team has been established to provide oversight of system-level strategy and practice standards across the north and south service areas, inclusive of the institutes and ambulatory clinical service lines, medical group quality, patient experience and care model design initiatives.

Job Summary

The EHMG Medical Director, Patient Safety and Risk Management will contribute to the organization's mission to help everyone in our communities be their best through care delivery that is safe, seamless and personal. The Medical Director, Patient Safety and Risk Management will partner with the system Patient Safety and Risk Management leadership team, as well as the EHMG Quality and Senior Operational Leadership team to support and enhance patient safety initiatives and risk management strategies within the EHMG. This role will involve collaborating with front-line clinicians, operational staff, HIT and Risk Management team members to develop, implement and monitor effective patient safety and risk management programs. The Medical Director, Patient Safety and Risk Management will also ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Co-Chair with the System Patient Safety and Risk Management Medical Group Leader, the EHMG Patient Safety and Risk Management subcommittee of the Quality Committee. Actively work to maintain a culture of safety and high reliability, and to ensure that all members of the health care team (including the patient and family) feel that their voices are heard.  Provide leadership in developing and executing patient safety and risk management strategies Develop policies and procedures to enhance patient safety and mitigate patient risk Collaborate with EHMG, System Quality, & Risk Management Leadership to analyze data to identify trends, root causes & areas of improvement, address safety concerns and implement solutions Design, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of patient safety initiatives and risk management programs for EHMG Participate in the investigation of adverse events and near misses, support the peer review process, and utilize patient safety tools (inclusive of root cause analysis) to develop action plans to prevent recurrence In conjunction with clinical, operational and educational leaders, support the implementation of educational programs in quality and patient safety. Develop and deliver training programs to enhance staff competencies in the area of patient safety and risk management, inclusive of the development and implementation of the annual required risk management training module Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement

Qualifications:

Member of the professional staff at an entity hospital within Endeavor HealthDeep knowledge of ambulatory quality, patient safety, population health, and managed careUnderstanding of regulatory bodies and statutes that cover value-based care

Minimum Education Level

MD or DO from an accredited medical school.Completion of residency training and board certification and maintenance of board certification in the individual’s specialty area

Minimum Licensure Requirements

Must have an unrestricted medical license for the state of Illinois.Must be a member of the professional staff at an entity of Endeavor Health

Minimum Certification Requirements

Certification in quality (IHI, LEAN/Six Sigma Certification and/or similar training), patient safety (CPPS), risk management (CPHRM) highly preferred.

Minimum Work Experience

5+ years of post-residency practiceAt least 2 years of experience of ambulatory quality and patient safety with escalating leadership responsibilities across the acute care health setting

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication, facilitation, analytical and motivational skills consistent with effective change management and innovation deployment. Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.Demonstrates ability to present information to a variety of audiences.     Focused, results driven, and able to collaborate with and lead others in direct and matrix management reporting structures.Fluent in process improvement methods and tools to evaluate, measure capability, and redesign operational and clinical processes. Function independently with data analysis, trending and understanding of statistical methods to determine impact of change. Interpret and display data in manner that identifies areas of opportunity and engages leaders to identify tactics for care improvement. Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary teams independently for both long term projects and ad hoc needs.Translates clinical questions into reporting requirements and coordinate with EPIC teams to deploy workflows and requirements of defines measures.Learns and maneuver multiple databases to glean insights and identify opportunities for improvement.Leads and directs Care Transformation Managers and others in accordance with strategic plans of the organization.

Scope: People Management

The expected number of direct reports is tbd and a dozen or more indirect resources.  This includes Care Transformation Managers.
