Job overview:
The Nurse Educator is responsible for designing, teaching, and evaluating and executing educational programs for all levels of professional, technical, and ancillary staff in a variety of clinical areas and hospital departments consistent with the hospital's mission, vision, philosophy, and core values. Programs include the orientation of new employees, in-service education relevant to the hospital environment, and continuing education offerings which are expected to maintain and/improve competency and work performance.

Qualifications:
Required:

Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursingMSN preferred or in progressMinimum of 2 years general practice and 1 or more years' experience in clinical practice areaMinimum of 1-year previous teaching experience in a service setting Successful completion of all orientation programs

Certifications and Licenses Required:

Current Registered Nurse License in the state of New JerseyBasic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart AssociationCourse completion in IV Therapy required

Scheduling Requirements:

Full TimeDay shift40 hrs. weeklyThe nurse educator is available for all shifts, for purposes of education, mentoring, and development and demonstrates job flexibility.

Essential Functions:
The nurse educator will assist the facility with compliance to regulating standards, quality improvement, and programs focusing on customer service. Acts as a clinical resource, develops and oversees a monthly education calendar. Review policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and nursing literature for evidence based clinical guidelines and standards of care to educate staff. Performance includes planning orientation for registered nurse, nursing assistant, and unit assistant.

The nurse educator participates in performance improvement activities. Oversees and develops a mentor, preceptor, residency programs. Assesses data relevant to the learner's progress and interprets the appropriate information necessary to develop group and individual learning plans. The Nurse Educator is a clinical expert with abilities to foster the clinical development of the staff that she/he guides.

This individual will be responsible for assessing the educational needs of the staff on an ongoing basis and to serve as a resource/coach for the nursing staff, educators, APNs, Management, and other healthcare providers. Collaborates closely with Director of Nursing and nursing management to ensure any quality issues or performance issues are resolved. The nurse educator is available for all shifts, for purposes of education, mentoring, and development and demonstrates job flexibility.
