Educator I, School Outreach - MAG
GENERAL PURPOSE: The Museum Program Educator for Academic & Community Programs supports the Academic & Community Programs Department, which includes the MAG¿s Creative Workshop (CW) and the RCSD-ELC (Expanded Learning Collaborative) Partnership Program through the preparation, development and implementation of a suite programmatic offerings that serve academic (PreK-12 students & teachers) and community (youth, families, Creative Workshop students, scouts, & other groups) audiences on a regular basis. Program Educators are responsible for supporting the coordination & facilitation of programs that include, but are not limited to: the RCSD-ELC (Expanded Learning Collaborative) Partnership Program, Teacher Professional Development Programs, Camps (Summer & Break Weeks), Youth Classes, Scout Programs, Pop-Up Workshops, Birthday Parties as well as other programs (to be developed) for families and community members (i.e. one-time events/programs such as Date Night/Paint Night). They are also responsible for assisting in program development and implementation for museum-wide events that include artmaking programs including: Clothesline Festival, Celebration Series programs, Advancement and Marketing & Engagement events, College nights and more. Candidates must have the ability to work evenings & weekends during events & programs. **JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** **_Program Coordination & Communication:_** + Manages program details from concept to production, including generating ideas for innovative programming, organizational aspects such as creating curriculum, program plans and schedules, managing day to day details and big picture planning when programs are not in session. This includes: + developing age-appropriate, hands-on projects that reflect the curriculum goals of their assigned program(s); + using the resources of the Memorial Art Gallery (including but not limited to the permanent and travelling exhibitions, Centennial Sculpture Park, Charlotte Whitney Allen Library, etc.) to engage, inspire and keep program participants engaged and learning. + collaborates with their supervisor to accurately use departmental and other institutional systems (EMS, Altru, Basecamp, Teams, Magic Calendar, etc.) to ensure complete communication around programs and to and monitor enrollment and gather registrant information from it. + Plans, organizes and coordinates logistics and curriculum in support of existing Academic & Community Programs Departments programming listed above and/or new programming for those audiences within the scope of the goals of the department and as capacity allows. + Works collaboratively within the department/with their supervisor and MAG¿s Marketing & Engagement Team to build cohesive and effective branding and communications focused on these programs to ensure enrollment. + Supports the development and distribution of related promotional materials including developing copy for web/brochures & registration system, weekly e-blasts, etc. + Supports the development of an annual social media/marketing plan; includes building the brand, representing the programs at community events/camp fairs, etc. + Collaborates within the department/with their supervisor during the budget process to identify attendance and program goals for year + Maintain program records (digital and/or physical files) for archival and future planning purposes in compliance with departmental/ UofR best practices for record keeping/storage. + Coordinates & communicates needs for program supplies/art-making materials; sources items for best values, prototypes projects, builds supply lists, requests orders in a timely manner; manages materials before, during & after programs to ensure proper use, storage and maintenance of inventory. Tracks and maintains program expenses and completes any financial request paperwork in a timely fashion. + Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with management, coworkers, museum patrons, volunteers, students, artists and community organizations to fulfill the mission of the MAG. **_Program Facilitation:_** + As scheduled, implements all aspects of programming as planned. + Sets the tone, pace and project scope of the art making portions of the program(s). + Acts as a liaison between the ACP team, other staff members, program participants (students, campers, scouts, etc.) and their caregivers (families, teachers, etc.) and the department/MAG regarding programs that are running. + Works collaboratively within the department and with other scheduled team members to ensure the proper set-up, tear-down, audio-visual needs, volunteer needs, graphics needs and other program/event production needs. + Works professionally and compatibly with all members of the classroom/program team throughout the duration of the program to all team members know their role and expectations and plans are in place regarding classroom management, regarding behaviors, supplies and a welcoming and supportive environment is established for program participants. Other duties as assigned **QUALIFICATIONS:** + Bachelor¿s Degree required + In fine arts, studio art, arts administration, education (formal or informal) and/or project management preferred **Required:** + Minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience teaching art to young learners as a teacher, facilitator, or other administrator for a youth centered, art-based program. Experience with classroom/studio or event management, program administration, development or coordination preferred OR an equivalent of education & experiences. + or equivalent combination of education and experience + The ideal candidate will be a creative, motivated, dynamic and outgoing individual with the ability to generate unique, or original ideas and solutions and have experience in or demonstrate skills the following: + working in a museum, informal education and/or fast paced creative environment and have experience producing creative content, curriculum and building a program from the ground up. + working with youth (ages 2.5 ¿ 17) and their caregivers/families and the understanding of creative teaching methods appropriate for the age group. + working across diverse communities and perspectives. Respect for people of all backgrounds, fostering an environment that values and includes perspectives from differing backgrounds, cultures, and skill sets. + excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; confident working independently and as part of a team. + excellent oral, written, and public speaking skills. Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and organized manner with a variety of audiences, including youth, adults, teachers, administrators and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. + excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to set, plan, and coordinate various projects simultaneously and still meet deadlines and goals. Enjoys creating schedules, coordinating program details & logistics. + best practices in youth program management, youth development and art/creativity as an empowering education tool. + Experience working within set budgets, forecasting and meeting set revenue target. + proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), experience with new media (Zoom, etc.) and databases (Altru¿s Blackbaud, etc.) preferred.
