Position Summary:
Promote team work and patient care in hospital setting by operating computer systems, perform a variety of clerical duties in support of assigned area to include data entry, answer phones, enter computer orders, assist as needed, and maintain files and other related duties.. Report compliance or equipment issues to department director. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
* MISCELLANEOUS - Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
* SUPPORT - May coordinate routine office activities and administrative functions in support of the unit
* CLERICAL - Provides administrative and clerical services as needed, such as data collection, scheduling appointments, verifying medical coverage, and telephone duties
* OBSERVATION - Assists RN’s with one-to-one observation of high-risk emergency department patients
* ORDERS - Performs electronic or paper-based order entry based on specific delegation from an RN or ED provider
* TRANSPORTATION - Clerks may assist with patient wheelchair or stretcher transportation as necessary
* CROSS-TRAIN - Clerks who meet the job qualifications for ED Technician or Advanced ED Technician may cross-train and cross-cover those roles with ED Manager or ED Director approval
* POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain established departmental and hospital policies and procedures, guidelines, objectives, and quality assurance programs
* PATIENT SAFETY - Report potential and actual patient safety, concerns, medical errors and or near misses in a timely manner thru the chain of command and document within the PSN system
* PATIENT CARE - Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional psychological and spiritual support to patient, friends and families
* TEAMWORK - Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams and resolve patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies
* COMPLIANCE - Active participation in hospital strategic initiatives such as quality improvement and monitoring TJC compliance
* PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-service training, meetings and workshops
