We are seeking a motivated candidate who is willing to learn and join our current multi-disciplinary team in executing technically challenging site investigation and remediation projects for a wide range of clients throughout the Northeast. The position will initially be primarily field work, with the potential to grow into a position that requires project planning and report writing.
**Your Impact**
This position involves the implementation of project work associated with multimedia (air, water, soil, and biota) investigations and remediation. The position requires work at project sites, around construction equipment, drilling rigs, and environmental contamination. The selected candidate needs to be a self-starter, open to learn, adaptable to change, have a strong work ethic, and thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities.
This position offers the opportunity to learn from and grow with an established team and to address complex environmental challenges by executing the following roles/responsibilities:
+ Perform environmental sampling (e.g., surface water, groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, indoor air) and oversee subcontractors in the field (e.g., drillers).
+ Complete detailed field notes and other forms of documentation to accurately capture field activities and observations.
+ Work in a team environment and communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
+ Communicate with staff, management, clients, and regulators or on-site personnel effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
+ Assist and coordinate project planning with labs, drillers, and equipment vendors as needed.
+ Under general supervision, perform routine field work related to soil sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, boring logs, and other assignments as designated.
+ Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.
+ Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
+ Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory documentation, and logbooks.
+ Utilize the latest technologies and techniques in performing studies and analysis of organic and inorganic compounds to determine their composition.
+ Complete training on assigned tasks.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
**Who You Are**
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline.
+ 0-1 years of relevant experience in environmental sampling, site investigation, or remediation.
+ Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
+ Proficient in MS Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
+ Flexible to work outside normal business hours, at locations requiring overnight stays, and overtime as needed.
+ Familiarity with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products.
+ Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
+ Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
+ Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
+ Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
+ Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
+ Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
+ Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
+ Ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time either stationary or walking.
+ Ability to lift 50 pounds.
+ Must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy.
+ Have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
+ Hands on knowledge on the use of field equipment (groundwater pumps, field meters, etc) is desirable.
+ OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is a plus.
+ Experience in site investigations and Phase I ESAs is desirable
+ Regulatory experience in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, or New York is a plus.
+ The ideal candidate would be based in the Chelmsford area and support the local site investigation group while being part of the larger operations within the region.
