General Job Description
MPR has a wide and growing client base in the fields of electric power (generation, both renewable and nuclear, as well as transmission & distribution), federal services, and health and life sciences. We work throughout the United States as well as internationally. Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, we also have offices in East Lyme, Connecticut, and Burlington, Massachusetts.
Duties/Responsibilities
We seek highly qualified, degreed engineers from a variety of technical disciplines, including:
+ Electrical (Power)
+ Electrical (Embedded Systems)
+ Mechanical
+ Chemical
+ Nuclear
+ Systems
+ Materials Science
+ Instrumentation & Control
+ Civil/Structural
Typical projects at MPR last from a few weeks to several years and are completed by project teams of 2-10 engineers. At any one point in time, a typical MPR engineer may be engaged in 2-3 projects simultaneously, which provides for a diverse and fulfilling work experience solving technical problems, developing, and implementing innovative solutions. Examples include:
+ Applying insight, management skills, advanced technology, physical system modelling, and/or data analytics to improve facility or equipment operations, maintenance, reliability, and/or performance.
+ Applying technical and project/risk management skills to effectively deploy new technology and/or major capital projects.
+ Specifying, designing, procuring, and testing a novel power, process industry, or medical device system or component.
MPR regularly provides training opportunities – many of which occur on-the-job with senior engineers who are recognized industry-wide as experts in their fields. Some of MPR’s most interesting projects provide the opportunity to travel to client sites, test facilities, or supplier’s facilities. Employees are expected to work primarily in one of our several offices and should expect a moderate (10-20%) amount of travel based on the specific requirements of their projects. Expected career progression includes developing technical expertise as well as increasing responsibility for project management, supervision, client relations, and business development.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is an engineer with a solid working knowledge of engineering first principles who is a proficient writer and communicator and can work both independently and with others. The candidate should be able to communicate and work closely with senior engineers and clients to solve problems. The candidate should also have an interest in working at client or other sites as projects require.
Successful candidates will possess an excellent academic record and be highly motivated proactive individuals. In addition, successful candidates will have the following skills and capabilities:
+ Robust analytical skills, including the ability and passion to problem solve
+ Aptitude to work outside of a single engineering discipline and quickly learn new concepts
+ Advanced computer skills preferred, including familiarity with programming languages such as C++or Python, analysis programs such as Ansys or MATLAB-Simulink®and design programs such as SolidWorks
+ Persistent, questioning attitude and ability to accept that in others
+ Follow through with all tasks and assignments in a timely manner
+ Attention to detail
+ Growth mindset with a high desire to grow as an engineering professional
+ Propensity and skills to lead, communicate, and exceed client expectations
