Driver/ General Maintenance

OVERVIEW: 

The Driver/General Maintenance position is responsible for driving either of the vans and/or trucks and assist with the maintenance for Santa Clara County facilities, grounds, parking lot and San Jose Temple Corps. The Driver/General Maintenance will report directly to the Operations Manager and/or Director of Business and/or County Coordinator. This position will need to cooperate with the supervisors and directors of all other programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fulfill driving assignments assigned to you over the course of a day Maintain daily mileage record for each vehicle Get receipts for all business purchases and turn in to the Bookkeeper promptly Report any injuries and/or accidents in accordance with Salvation Army policies and procedures Use proper hand trucks or pallet jacks for all heavy items

VEHICLE MAINTENANCE

Provide daily checks on vehicles and record them such as tire pressure, good condition, fuel, oil, and other fluids, and when needed top them off Notify when maintenance is necessary, and assist in scheduling service

TRANSPORTATION

As directed, pick up all mail and parcels left at the post office and deliver them to the Administrative Assistant Coordinate the availability of vehicles Drive the van or truck for activities as requested When assigned, pick up of food donations at various grocery stores and other sites Assist in driving for the senior nutrition and senior meals program

CHRISTMAS

Pick up donations from the assigned route and deliver them to the Christmas Center Assist with other Christmas duties as requested

MAINTENANCE

Assist with the maintenance for Santa Clara County facilities, grounds, parking lot and San Jose Temple Corps Duties include, but, are not limited to, minor repairs, cleaning on an as-needed basis, painting, lawn care, replacement of lights bulbs, minor plumbing, etc. Relocate, assemble, and/or install furniture/fixtures/office equipment Set up and tear down of tables and chairs for various meetings and events Attend Safety Committee meetings Maintain Family Services, including sanitation, safety and security Assist in the upkeep of all maintenance equipment Carry out any other maintenance duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent (required) California Driver’s license (required) Experience in commercial driving Obtain a Class B license and pass a Department of Transportation screening and be issued a DOT Medical Certification Experience in general maintenance Forklift Certified upon being hired

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to perform minor repairs Ability to interact with the public professionally and cordially Great communication skills Self-motivated Great organizational skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
