Drill & Blast Engineer
Join Our Team and Help Shape the Future of Mining! We are seeking a Drill & Blast Engineer to support our client's high-impact mining project in Sudbury, Ontario. This role is responsible for designing, planning, and coordinating safe, efficient, and cost-effective drill and blast activities. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will work closely with production teams, geotechnical experts, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational goals. Key Responsibilities Drill & Blast Design & Planning + Develop drill patterns, load sheets, and tie-up plans for drilling and blasting contractors. + Align mine plans with forecasts, schedules, and budgets. + Incorporate geotechnical recommendations into the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP). + Conduct pit inspections to verify compliance with design specifications. + Revise and communicate design amendments as needed. Operations & Compliance + Manage blast notifications and ensure stakeholders and local communities are informed. + Monitor blasting vibrations, geotechnical conditions, and operational activities, reporting hazards as needed. + Oversee bench cleanup and drilling operations in collaboration with production teams. + Implement strategies to minimize ore dilution and improve efficiency. + Support the Production Supervisor in daily meetings and toolbox talks. Financial & Data Management + Ensure drill and blast activities stay within budget through cost-effective resource management. + Complete End-of-Month (EOM) reporting, including forecasts and actual performance data. + Conduct drill and blast block reconciliations and address variances. + Manage subcontractor invoices and accruals. + Utilize Infomine and PowerBI for data entry and reporting. Stakeholder & Relationship Management + Set clear expectations for subcontractors and reinforce high-performance standards. + Enhance coordination and communication between internal departments. + Foster strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to optimize efficiency. Qualifications Education & Certification + Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field. + Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status with a professional engineering accrediting body in Canada or ability to acquire this certification. Experience & Skills + 2-3 years of mining engineering experience, specifically in drill and blast operations in an open-pit mine. + Proficiency in drill & blast design software, such as Vulcan, ShotPlus, and BlastIQ. + Experience with electronic detonators is an asset. + Strong knowledge of Ontario mining regulations and safety standards. + Well-developed analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Additional Requirements + Valid Driver's License. + Authorized to work in Canada (sponsorship is not available). + Willing to relocate to Sudbury, Ontario.
