Your New Role...
As Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) portfolio continues to grow – around the world and across platforms – the Technology & Operations (T&O) team is building media technology and IT systems that meet world class standards for which WBD is known. T&O builds, implements, and maintains the business systems and technology that are critical for delivering WBD’s products, while articulating the long-term technology strategy that will enable WBD’s growing pay-tv, digital terrestrial, free-to-air and online services to reach more audiences on more platforms.
Reporting to an Operations Manager, this position is critical to monitoring and supporting WB Discovery’s Global television distribution infrastructure. You will be a part of our Tier 1 behind-the-scenes operations support team expected to have a versatile skill set both technically and personally with the ability to stay focused and continually develop as an experienced and skilled technician. Operators in this role will have experience in leading difficult situations, adapting to changing situations and responsibilities quickly and without issue, staying calm, reacting quickly under pressure and being able to execute on the key responsibilities noted below. This is an essential role, on site in Sterling Virginia.
The position is shift-based, your shift may rotate on a bi-monthly basis. You will be working as part of a team that is responsible for monitoring, recovering, troubleshooting, escalating and reporting (written and verbal) issues on distribution feeds across North America, Asia Pacific, Latin America. Teamwork is a key element to this role, within the Operations groups as well as across the engineering teams and stakeholders we support.

Your Role Accountabilities...
Monitor the health of every on-air and backup system confirming all WB Discovery Networks are operational and operating within proper performance specifications (linear and IP deliveries)Handles the necessary switching of transmission systems (including teleports) during normal or emergency conditions to ensure that all services remain on the air.May provide input and issue written reports to various factions of the Technology & Operations groups about investigations into transmission outages and/or timeline of events around an issue.Routinely check all required systems in the transmission chain, ability to spot any issues and recover or escalate to proper parties.An awareness around the national fiber connectivity between WBD facilities and remote locations throughout the world that are involved in the distribution feeds monitored.May perform on-site quality control and proof of performance testing of ad hoc programs and full-time services.Assist with training, coaching and development of Distribution Staff Members as needed.Coordinate escalation process to third party suppliers and ensure SOPs are followed, Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met and adhered to and risk mitigatedOutage vetting – initiating of critical outage situations including determination of severity (1, 2, and 3 based on SLA). Issue outage notifications/updates/resolutionsImplement, or assist with implementation of, changes to distribution infrastructureWork closely with other Technology & Operations and Distribution staff to ensure success of daily operationsCoordinate communication and/or escalation process to third-party vendors as neededServe as a liaison between other support teams as required by working collaboratively and across multiple leadership levels and areas within the company. Provide support to the Operations Manager in the management of outages as needed, providing communications to small and large-scale user groups.Be proactive and ensure constant follow up with involved teams to ensure resolution or root cause is provided.Ability to embrace and support new technologies introduced first hand to DistributionCreate and update documentation and proceduresProactively keep Knowledge Base(s) up-to-dateOther duties as required.Qualifications & Experiences...
4-7 years of experience in operations or transmission/compression or broadcast operations systems preferredWorking knowledge of C-band RF experienceWorking experience with Television Distribution Systems – fiber and satellite based, as well as Satellite Monitoring and control SystemsCandidates should have a basic knowledge of architectural, mechanical, and electrical systems and their interaction with the distribution equipment.Able to work without supervision, combining initiative with discretionComputer literacy, excellent oral and written communication abilities and close attention to details are required.Overnight, weekend, holidays, and rotating shifts are required as this is a 365/24/7 mission critical position to support the distribution reliability of WB Discovery Communications services.This position is considered an essential position.
