Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices; OR
Two years of experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices plus one year of experience in the operation of mobile equipment for the construction or maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, railroad rights-of-way, levees, airport runways, taxi strips, parking aprons, or parking lots.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess a current Class D Chauffer's License.

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide assistance, guidance, and support to not less than two (2) District Sign Specialists as needed to accomplish major sign installation, maintenance, and replacement for a Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) District.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Advanced.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Typically, direct from a Highway Foreman 2. May receive supervision from higher level personnel.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Functional over lower level District Sign Specialists.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Transportation and Development.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from District Sign Specialist 2 by the presence of serving as a technical expert over assigned District Sign Crews.
Differs from Highway Foreman 2 by the absence of direct supervisory duties.

Directs the sequence of work and assigns tasks to lower level District Sign Specialists.
Provides guidance and oversees the work of lower level District Sign Specialists.
Aids and assists in lane closures, road closures, and detours.
Maintains electronic daily work reports, material used reports, truck inventory, and sign shop inventory.
Performs and inspects sign installation, replacement, and maintenance on state highways in accordance with the federal guidelines. This includes highway signing, construction signing, road closure signing, barricading, and other permanent and temporary signing.
Determines exact placement requirements for speed zones, weight limits, and other regulatory signing by interpreting legal orders establishing these regulations.
Operates and maintains all equipment to perform duties, including sign truck and small tools.
