As a District Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager for our Atlantic Canada District office, you will be the driving force behind PCL's commitment to a safe and healthy workplace. Reporting directly to our District Manager, and part of our senior leadership team you will develop and implement proactive strategies that reduce risk, foster a culture of safety and promote well-being. Supporting our operations throughout the Atlantic Canada region, occassional travel will be required as PCL continues to expand in the Maritimes.
Additionally here is how you will contribute to our team:
Responsibilities Reviews internal HSE policies and practices to ensure they are current, appropriate, implemented, and communicated. Oversees the quality and effectiveness of HSE inspections. Develops and rolls out district strategic HSE plan in conjunction with district management. Develops and evaluates the effectiveness of emergency response plan. Involved in the response to and resolution of any significant incidents. Conducts risk management assessment of trade contractor safety performance and communicates findings to the appropriate stakeholders. Participates in the investigation process as per the incident investigation matrix and determines when external resources are required. Review the quality of the investigations and subsequent findings. Looks for opportunities to mitigate/minimize risk and financial exposure for claims. Assists with the development of any appeals and meets with compensation board when applicable. Qualifications Postsecondary diploma/degree in OH&S or a related discipline. 12 years of experience in related industry. 6 years of experience in a supervisory role. Strong knowledge of construction processes, execution, and terminology. Expert knowledge of all OH&S and environmental legislation related to the district. Conflict resolution, with the ability to manage and effectively resolve conflict with clients/government and influence others towards resolution in high-pressure situations. Develops, evaluates, and makes recommendations for project HSE processes; communicates what is expected of the district HSE processes; and implements corporate policy. Ability to influence safety culture and industry legislation. Strong ability to coach and mentor others.
