Distribution Group Manager

Your Opportunity

The role of Distribution Manager is to manage our Vancouver distribution project delivery team and provide leadership, guidance, mentorship, and direction to a multi-disciplinary design team. You will interface directly with utility and industry clients and stakeholders to effectively manage engineering project deliverables while working with project managers to meet project delivery parameters, all with a focus on quality and team collaboration. You will be the local office key point of contact for our distribution team. A strong group of technical leads and project managers will work with you to help the team succeed.

You bring experience in leading teams and bring the interpersonal skills to foster a positive team environment and support a culture of accountability as well as a strong focus on safety. Experience in working within a consulting environment rounds you out. Managing local staff will include providing day-to-day coaching and guidance, mentorship, and being accountable for project deliverables.

Your previous engineering design and project management experience will help you in performing a variety of tasks which may include design management, project engineering management, resource planning, quality management, regular client interactions and people management.

Your Key Responsibilities Supervise groups of design teams focused on utility distribution projects to execute both large and small projects. Mentor and provide technical support to team members. Liaise with discipline and team leads, project managers, vendors, contractors and clients to facilitate smooth flow of information for use in preparing preliminary and detailed design and provide design clarifications and solutions during construction. Provide collaborative oversight for project managers and project engineers, including engineering design, technical specifications, opinions of probable costs (engineer’s estimates), engineering reports and required applications to regulatory agencies. Participate in the delivery process of projects, which may require meeting with clients, contractors, stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and reviewing agency personnel. Organize and chair regular team meetings to review project and proposal milestones, confirm resource needs, review client expectations, facilitate inter-office work collaboration, and plan team building activities. Attend and report out on progress and resource needs at regular meetings, including key performance indicator tracking. Support the day-to-day activities of assigned projects from inception through engineering, construction, to close out. Your Capabilities and Credentials Strong communication skills, including an aptitude for effective leadership and people management. Good motivator of people, proven results in excellent staff engagement. Comprehensive understanding of all phases of utility distribution projects. Ability to effectively discuss project and technical issues with clients and stakeholders. Excellent time-management skills; thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources. Working knowledge of electrical utility systems, policies and procedures including engineering standards. Understanding of power structure analysis software such as SpidaCalc or similar. Experience working with a major electrical utility and industrial power clients, with a focus on British Columbia and Alberta, experience on BC Hydro’s distribution system, including DAD and Passport, is considered a strong asset. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency/experience with Microsoft Outlook and Office, CAD software, utility GIS systems. Education and Experience We require, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least eight years electric power utility experience. Degrees must be from an accredited university in a related field of study.

Additional Information Salary Range(s): Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s): Location Description: Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby) Min Pay Range: Lower Mainland $108,400 Max Pay Range: Lower Mainland $162,700 Note: The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
