Your role and responsibilities

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through various projects. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting ABB’s operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.The work model for the role is: onsiteThis role is contributing to the Electrification Business.You will be mainly accountable for:•\tConduct literature survey and benchmarking to assess the state of art methods for a given problem•\tActively participate in applied research activities in the area of distribution grid resilience, including distribution protection and control, modeling and simulation, and microgrids, resulting in proofs of concept, prototypes, patents, and/or academic publications•\tContribute to the promotion of the application of distribution grid resilience within ABB’s customer industries, and develop prototype solutions using hardware-in-loop testing environment, such as Opal-RT•\tProtection and control schemes of distribution systems, such as protection devices, converter fault current limiting, control tuning, and protection coordination•\tModeling and simulation of distribution grids via software such as Matlab/Simulink and PSCAD/RSCAD•\tContribute to intelligent distribution grid resilience systems that use the latest software technologies, including edge computing, embedded systems, communications, IoT technologies, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud computing technologies•\tLiving ABB’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues, and the business.

Qualifications for the role

\tMust be currently authorized to work for ABB in the US\tPhD or master’s student in Electrical Engineering (PhD preferred)\tKnowledge of distribution system apparatus and operations is a big plus\tKnowledge of different types of power electronics converters and converter control\tKnowledge of power system fault protection\tModeling and simulation expertise in Matlab/Simulink and Opal-RT\tModeling and simulation expertise in PSCAD/RSCAD and RTDS\tModeling and simulation expertise in EnergyPlus and OpenDSS
