Your Opportunity

The role of a Distribution Engineering Manager is to oversee our US West Distribution Engineering and Design team focused on distribution projects, and provide leadership, guidance, mentorship and direction to a talented team. You will interface directly with utility and industry clients and stakeholders to effectively manage project deliverables, with a focus on quality, team collaboration and growth. 

As a leader experienced in guiding teams you bring the interpersonal skills to foster a positive team environment and support a culture of safety. Ideally you bring experience in working in a consulting environment. Managing the distribution group will include providing day-to-day technical coaching and guidance, mentorship, and being the responsible lead of project deliverables for assigned projects.

Your previous engineering design and leadership experience will help you with performing a variety of tasks which may include: design management, project engineering management, resource planning, quality management, people management, recruiting, marketing and business development.

Your Key Responsibilities
Supervise groups of professionals in the distribution space to execute both large and small projects;
Mentor and provide technical support to team members;
Liaise with other discipline leads, project managers, vendors, contractors and clients to facilitate smooth flow of information for use in preparing preliminary and detailed design and provide design clarifications and solutions during construction;
Provide senior oversight for project engineers and designers, including detailed design, technical specifications, opinions of probable costs, engineering reports and required applications to regulatory agencies;
Participate in the permitting process of projects, which may require meeting with clients, contractors, stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and reviewing agency personnel.
Organize and chair regular team meetings to review project and proposal milestones, confirm resource needs, review client expectations, facilitate inter-office work collaboration, and plan team building activities.
Attend and report out on progress and resource needs at regular meetings, including key performance indicator tracking.
Support the day-to-day activities of assigned projects from inception through engineering, construction, to close out.
Participate in recruitment and grow the team Your Capabilities and Credentials
Strong communication skills, including an aptitude for effective leadership and people management
Good motivator of people, proven results in excellent staff engagement 
Comprehensive understanding of all phases of distribution projects, including conventional and alternative delivery methods for public and private clients
Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and stakeholders
Excellent time-management skills; thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting and efficient use of time and resources
Working knowledge of electrical utility systems, policies and procedures including engineering standards 
Experience working with major electrical utilities and industrial power clients, with a focus on US West
Available to travel up to 25%

Education and Experience

We require, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least fifteen years electric power utility experience. Degrees must be from an accredited university in a related field of study

Typical office environment working with computers and sitting at a desk. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
