Job Description
As a Distribution Designer, you will acquire a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility construction standards, and best industry engineering practices. You will also gain broad knowledge of various engineering disciplines and maintain the production and quality of projects, including field data, photographs, engineering analysis, reports, and databases.
ResponsibilitiesMaintain production and quality of projects, including field data, photographs, engineering analysis, reports, and databases.Prepare and modify electrical and roadway drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, graphs, and construction drawing packages.Perform various field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems, including system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, and lighting audits.Perform field data collection using laptop computers, tablet devices, GPS, and other electronic devices to input data into database software.Develop a working knowledge of telephone, cable, and other communication facilities.Operate necessary equipment to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities, perform pole inspections, and inspect and perform maintenance on pad-mounted equipment.Present ideas effectively in formal and informal situations and communicate well in writing and orally.Keep supervisors and coworkers informed by sharing complete and accurate information.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsThorough knowledge of practices and procedures in one or more of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Control, Protective Relaying, Transmission Design, Substation Design, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Distribution Engineering, Surveying, GIS and Mapping, CADD.Experience with distribution design, pole attachments, AutoCAD, GIS, and utility design.Ability to perform detailed design of overhead and/or underground electric distribution systems, including preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and design estimates.Analytical competence to interact with a variety of individuals, including engineers and experienced distribution system designers.High school diploma required; Associate's Degree in Engineering or similar discipline preferred.Entry-level experience with an Associate's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.1+ years of electric utility or telecommunications field experience preferred.Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) preferred.Proficient use of computers and Microsoft Office applications.Experience with AutoCAD or similar programs preferred.Proficient use of engineering software preferred.Clear and valid driver's license required.Overnight travel to surrounding utility territory is expected.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
