The Director of Unsecured Products is a strategic leader responsible for driving the vision, development, and execution of the unsecured lending portfolio, including credit cards, personal loans, and lines of credit. This executive role requires a deep understanding of the financial services industry, market trends, and member needs to create innovative, competitive, and profitable lending products. The Director will shape long-term product strategies, enhance operational efficiencies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives. The ideal candidate is a visionary with strong leadership skills, financial acumen, and the ability to balance risk, growth, and member satisfaction. Responsible and Accountable for: Market and Competitive Analysis + Lead comprehensive market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks. + Establish a strategic framework that positions the credit union as an industry leader in unsecured lending. + Develop innovative strategies to differentiate product offerings and drive sustainable growth. Strategic Product Leadership and Roadmap Development + Define and execute a multi-year product roadmap that aligns with the credit union’s strategic objectives. + Develop a portfolio vision that enhances market competitiveness and aligns with member needs. + Set product priorities based on business impact, financial viability, and competitive positioning. + Influence senior leadership and board members on product strategies and growth initiatives. Product Development & Innovation + Oversee the design, development, and launch of new products and enhancements, ensuring alignment with member expectations and business goals. + Partner with technology and digital teams to implement cutting-edge solutions that drive efficiency and member engagement. + Champion innovation by identifying and integrating emerging trends, technologies, and partnerships. Pricing and Profitability Strategy + Develop advanced pricing models that optimize revenue, profitability, and member value. + Implement data-driven pricing strategies, leveraging analytics to maximize financial performance. + Monitor market dynamics and adjust pricing structures to maintain competitiveness. Channel and Distribution Strategy + Develop and execute a multi-channel strategy, optimizing digital, branch, and partner distribution models. + Strengthen partnerships, third-party platforms, and alternative lending channels. + Lead the expansion of unsecured products into new markets and member segments Member Experience and Engagement Optimization + Ensure best-in-class member experience through seamless application, servicing, and repayment journeys. + Utilize data analytics and AI to enhance personalized product offerings and engagement. + Partner with member service teams to establish proactive feedback loops for continuous improvement. Risk, Compliance, and Governance + Drive a risk-balanced approach to product development, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. + Implement risk management frameworks that enhance credit quality while fostering responsible growth. + Work closely with compliance and legal teams to navigate industry regulations and mitigate potential risks. Financial Performance & Portfolio Management + Own the P&L for the unsecured lending portfolio, ensuring profitability and sustainable growth. + Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and continuously refine product strategies. + Utilize predictive analytics to assess risk-adjusted returns and optimize portfolio performance. Executive Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration + Partner with senior leadership to shape enterprise-wide lending strategies. + Foster collaboration across departments, including technology, marketing, risk, and operations. + Present product insights and performance updates to executive leadership and the board. Organization Leadership and Team Development + Build and lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence. + Mentor and develop direct reports, ensuring professional growth and succession planning. + Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in team leadership and decision-making. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Strategic Product Management:Ability to develop and execute a strategic product roadmap that aligns with organizational goals and market needs. + Market Analysis:Strong understanding of market research, competitive analysis, and member needs identification to inform product development. + Financial Acumen:Knowledge of product P&L management, pricing strategy, and profitability analysis. + Project Management:Skilled in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects with competing deadlines. + Member-Centric Design:Expertise in developing member-centric products with a strong focus on the member journey and experience. + Analytical Skills:Proficient in data-driven decision-making, utilizing metrics to assess product performance and guide improvements. + Communication and Collaboration:Excellent communication skills for aligning internal stakeholders, as well as collaborating with technology, marketing, and sales teams. + Risk Management:Ability to assess and mitigate risks in product development and go-to-market strategies. + Innovation and Adaptability:Demonstrates creativity and a willingness to adapt product strategies based on market trends and member feedback. + Leadership and Mentoring:Proven ability to lead, inspire, and mentor a diverse team, fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented environment. Skilled in providing constructive feedback, developing team strengths, and promoting professional development. Education and Experience: + Education:Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Product Management, or a related field; an MBA or advanced degree is a plus. + People Leadership Experience:Experience leading a team, with demonstrated success in coaching, mentoring, and developing talent within the product function. + Experience:Proven product management experience, ideally within a consumer-facing or technology-driven industry. Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and driving product initiatives from concept to launch. Familiarity with product development methodologies and tools used in product management.
