Job Description

General Summary:    

This individual will be responsible for working with the Survivorship/Adolescent & Young Adult (AYA) Program to support all aspects of management and scientific development for the investigator’s research portfolio. The Director, Survivorship/AYA Research will lead efforts to secure external funding, steward pre- and post-award processes, and provide guidance to investigators to support operations, research, and strategic planning. The successful candidate will ensure compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates. 

Essential Job Functions:

1.    Develops and writes proposals for extramural funding and collaborates with the central development office, departmental research management, and central research administration to submit funding proposals.
2.    Accurately monitors projects, keeping track of effort and funds expended and committed, and anticipate at an early stage any need for changes in project direction, scope, objectives, funding, or timeline.
3.    Manages multiple high-priority projects and independently follows through with detail on general, and sometimes ambiguous, instructions for projects. 
4.    Develops strategies to identify and cultivate new donors and funding streams.
5.    Facilitates technical discussions, as well as synthesizes, summarizes, and generates insight from large amounts of complex data and information.
6.    Provides training and mentorship for program staff and others to improve research operations and development.
7.    Oversees activities related to data collection, analysis, and reporting. Reviews articles, reports, and manuscripts. Oversees the presentation of research findings at meetings and/or conferences.
8.    Manages program operations and administrative functions which may include planning and scheduling, program evaluation, policy implementation, personnel administration, budget, marketing, fundraising, and proposal development.
9.    Contributes to the design of program content, policies, and strategic planning efforts.
10.    Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

1)    PhD degree in a related field required. 
2)    Illinois RN license required.
3)    At least 10 years of progressive work experience in a related job discipline. Preferably in a medical or research setting. 
4)    Clinical background in nursing and medical oncology research / health outcomes research required.
5)    Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with physicians, Principal Investigators, and medical center personnel, and external funding agencies, and to maintain a variety of internal and external contacts.
6)    Ability to apply judgment and make decisions affecting function or procedures in all aspects of the position.
7)    Ability to resolve complex problems and issues.
8)    Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Pay Range

$110,240.00-$181,896.00 Salary
