Purpose

The Director or Executive Director of Marketing and Communications will formulate and implement a comprehensive branding and marketing strategy to position the new School of Civic Leadership as a national leader in civic education and academic excellence. Advance college priorities, including driving applications and yield of prospective students, recruiting world-class faculty, and establishing a strong national reputation.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy for the School of Civic Leadership. Establish the brand voice, ensuring consistent and memorable tone, style and branding across platforms. Develop a strategic marketing and communications plan. Serve as the school’s liaison with UT Austin's central communications office and participate on university-wide committees as needed. Serve as a member of the senior leadership team of the School of Civic leadership, providing communications and marketing guidance for all strategic efforts of the school. Advise dean's office leadership on opportunities related to image, marketing and branding, and high-level communications issues. Work closely with Admissions to coordinate student recruitment communications. Advise on materials and communications associated with fundraising efforts and selected high-profile events. Coordinate crisis and emergency communications and response when necessary.

Serve as creator, editor, and reviewer for website, social media, advertising, e-mail, and publication content. Coordinate in-house team members and outside contractors to provide consistent content that features high impact, engaging text and visuals adapted to different audiences: students, alumni, donors, faculty, and the public. Be knowledgeable of and enforce best practices across team members. Determine, assign, and coordinate asset delivery from designers, illustrators, videographers, photographers, copywriters, podcasters, and marketing agencies to achieve brand building goals and position the School of Civic Leadership as a center of academic excellence in the growing civics movement. Determine content and designate writing assignments for SCL’s Forum magazine.

Develop and evaluate yearly marketing and communications plan based on ROI and allotted budget. Manage and maintain the budget including contracts, vendors, events, and publications.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field

At least five years of experience in communications and marketing with increasing levels of responsibility

Ability to develop original messaging that advances School of Civic Leadership vision and themes. 

Passion for the mission of the School of Civic Leadership

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than the minimum education and experience

Degree specialization in an academic field relevant to civic leadership (political theory, government, philosophy, economic thought, constitutional democracy, etc.)

Salary Range

$90,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Typical office environment.

Work hours may include occasional evenings, weekends and some holidays during peak periods to meet deadlines.

On site work is the general expectation for School of Civic Leadership staff.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
