Director of Work-Based Learning & Life Skills Requisition Number 2025-8079 Overview About Us  For over 90 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware has impacted thousands of lives across Delaware.  We are the largest licensed provider of childcare in Delaware and the only statewide Boys & Girls Club in the nation.
 
Each and everyday girls and boys are left to find their own recreation and companionship.  An increasing number of kids are at home with no adult care or supervision.  Young people need to know they have a place in their community where they can go.  Clubs provide a safe haven for youth, allow them to meet with friends and be a part of positive peer groups.  Club programs teach life skills, conflict resolution and focus on the development of character.  Clubs also provide members with positive role models and a nurturing environment that help improve decision-making skills  Position Summary  Under the supervision of the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Work-Based Learning & Life Skills oversees the development, implementation, supervision, evaluation, and monitoring of our “Up Next” work-based learning program, as well as other initiatives involving career exploration, life skills programs and internships/volunteerism.  Scope of work includes teen work-based learning programming implemented both on-site at standalone BGCDE facilities and at satellite locations, which include schools and various community organizations. This position will collaborate with other IPT professionals and Area Directors to ensure consistent, effective regional teen work-based learning programming happens throughout the county. This position must embrace diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and carry out behaviors aligned with our mission and DEI statement. Successful performance in this position will result in high impact programs and services, greater teen membership and participation, a successful and growing “Up Next” program and access to programs and services by teens from more Delaware communities. NOTE: “Up Next” is a statewide program and Director would oversee all aspects of the program but also have IPT colleagues assisting in all areas of the state.    Responsibilities Provide leadership for the statewide implementation of the “Up Next” teen work-based learning program. This includes communication with partners, community, schools, teens and Club staff. This also includes fundraising and pursuing potential partners and funders who will help grow the program.Design and implement “Up Next 2.0” program. This program will focus on recruiting college interns and staff statewide to assist with programming at The Clubs or IPT Middle-school sites. Relationships with Career Centers at all Delaware Universities and Colleges will be necessary.Lead staff in strict adherence to Boys & Girls Club operating policies and procedures.Work with VPO to determine strategies for development of programmatic goals and objectives, corresponding action plans, performance benchmarks, and ongoing quality assurance that result in greater program membership and participation numbers, as well as greater, measurable impact.Ensure planning, implementation, evaluation, and quality assurance of programs and services for teens at days, times, and locations that most effectively meet the needs and interests of teens.  Locations may include schools, college campuses, theaters, sports arenas, partner organizations, etc., as well as Boys & Girls Clubs.Work collaboratively with other County Teen Directors, consultants, and corporate partners to continue development of Boys & Girls Club’s College Awareness ProgramCollaborate with other IPT professionals, Area Directors, and other Club management to create and foster a regional, collaborative approach to programming and to ensure operational efficiencies and target outcomes.In consultation with the VPO and in collaboration with other County Teen Directors, create and support systems for measuring program quality and implement appropriate planning processes for continuous improvement.In coordination with the VPO and other County Teen Directors and other IPT staff, contribute to the development of community partnerships and strategic alliances to help increase teen membership and recruit volunteers from various sources, as well as staff from partner groups and organizations, to ensure supervision needed for the number of teens served.Ensure all staff members are well versed in Boys & Girls Club’s safety and security policies, protocols, and practices. For example, all policies pertaining to supervision of youth, emergency response and health safety protocols, field trip policies, prohibition of private one-on-one interaction with youth, use of technology, Club Code of Conduct, and others.Effectively contribute to resource development as part of a collaborative, mutually supportive team to include other County Teen Directors and VPO.Coordinate the cost-effective management and deployment of material, financial, and human resources within the county.Prepare and deliver presentations for school officials and other personnel, as well as to other potential community partners in achievement of IPT goals and objectives.Assure that administrative duties are completed in a thorough and timely manner.Support systems to maintain facilities, equipment and other resources related to teen programming in collaboration with Area Directors, Area Operations Coordinators, and Club Directors.Contribute to the positive brand image of BGCDE and the organization’s drive to be the leading youth-serving organization in Delaware. Qualifications Qualifications and Education RequirementsMust be able to pass an FBI clearance, State of Delaware Criminal History Background Check, National and State Sexual Abuse Registry check, and National and State Child Abuse Registry CheckFour-year degree from an accredited college or university preferred or equivalent years of experience.Minimum of five (5) years of experience effectively managing or delivering programs to youth ages 13-20.Must possess a valid driver’s license with less than 5 points.Competencies/Skills/Experience:Demonstrated ability to organize and operate programming for youth in Middle School and High School.Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and other applications strongly preferred.Resource Development/ Fundraising/ Community Engagement experience preferred.Knowledge of and ability to teach and apply positive conflict resolution techniques.Ability to develop a positive self-image in Boys & Girls Club members.Demonstrated verbal and written competency.Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, recruit and train volunteers and mentor youth.Knowledge of budgeting and financial management.Working Conditions:Sometimes bends, stoops, walks and sometimes runs on a regular basis while interacting with children in various activities throughout the day.Ability to perform duties effectively under stressful conditions; ability to make decisions quickly and accurately with tact and impartialityAbility to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Work Hours:  Monday –Friday 10am – 6pm with flexibility to work evenings based upon business needs.  Work Location:  This position is open to candidates residing anywhere within Delaware or neighboring state; however, frequent in-state travel in own vehicle is required Note: This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed.
