About the role:

As the Director of U.S. Public Policy you will work as a leader within the Corporate Affairs team, furthering the growth of FIS’ business and public policy interests. You will provide strategic policy advice, direction and strategy for FIS’ federal and state public policy activity as well as third party partnerships in order to educate policymakers and interested stakeholders on a broad range of issues. Our aim is to reduce the threat of negative regulation and build a platform for policies that build FIS’ business by supporting and advising FIS’ business strategy.

This role requires a keen understanding of the U.S. regulatory and political landscape surrounding fintech and traditional financial services firms. You will be responsible for the policy analysis, advocacy, and relationship management of key stakeholders, including regulators, government officials, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), trade associations and employees in the U.S.

About the team:

This position is part of the Corporate Affairs team, which is a critical component of FIS’ Legal, Compliance, and Corporate Affairs (LCCA) organization. Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Affairs, who is based in Washington DC, you will work collaboratively and transparently within LCCA and alongside FIS’ business segment leaders to ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy goals.

What you will be doing:

Advise internal business, senior management and LCCA stakeholders about pending regulatory and legislative developments to assist in product development strategies and business priorities.Build and maintain effective bipartisan working relationships with governmental entities, members of Congress and staff.Actively engage with FIS’ U.S.-based trade associations, representing company interests and helping drive industry alignment on issues affecting the company.Collaborate with business teams and various functions across the company (e.g., Regulatory Legal, Compliance, etc.) to generate comment letters and responses to regulatory and other policymaking consultations.Evaluate the impacts of policies with input from business units and assist with developing and implementing strategies to protect and promote company interests.Prepare briefing documents, talking points, and background materials for advocacy engagements.Design and implement advocacy strategies for achieving policy goals with relevant federal and state legislative, administrative, regulatory, and other governmental entities.Support the administration of the company’s federal political action committee, including developing candidate contribution recommendations, annual fundraising solicitations, and compliance-related activities.Participate in FIS’ visible presence in Washington, DC, including attending public events, social functions, and political events, and cultivating relationships with key officials, agencies, and thought leaders.Identify deliverables, track results, and report progress to management across a wide range of policy issues. Ensure timely and effective completion of projects and initiatives across the global policy team.Manage a team of U.S. policy specialists to advance FIS’ policy objectives by creating guidelines, setting goals and monitoring team performance.

Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, economics, business or law or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.Masters or Law degree preferred.7+ years required (10+ years preferred) of demonstrable leadership experience in public policy, government relations, or related government experience.Outstanding, proven interpersonal skills with the ability to function in and promote a team culture.Thorough understanding of federal legislative and regulatory processes.Excellent written and spoken communication skills coupled with the ability to communicate at a high level.Ability to work independently and also constructively as a collaborative team-player. High-energy, self-motivated, results-driven and politically savvy.Organized and detail oriented. Fair and respectful in every setting.Must have a keen sense of meeting and interpersonal dynamics and ability to “read the room” and react/adjust according to audience.Must be a strategic thinker/planner and creative problem solver with demonstrated ability to conceive and execute plans/proposals.Ability to navigate corporate settings to bring teams together to tackle challenges and address opportunities.Strong analytical approach to problem solving, ability to develop creative and practical solutions to complex problems, able to deal with short deadlines, and work productively in high pressure situations.Able to consistently exercise sound judgment and understand the broader commercial and regulatory environment in which FIS operates.Knowledge and experience of the payments, financial services and technology sectors are a plus.

FIS is committed to providing its employees with an exciting career opportunity and competitive compensation. The pay range for this full-time position is $160,480.00 - $269,610.00 and reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position based on the posted role, level, and location. Within the range, actual individual starting pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Any changes in work location will also impact actual individual starting pay. Please consult with your recruiter about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
