Director of Studies

EF is an internationally recognized institution, with schools located all over the world.  EF International Language Campus Cape Town is situated in the iconic area of Gardens and is one of fastest growing EF destinations.

The main role of the Director of Studies is to manage the academic department and implement course programs ensuring student satisfaction. The role calls for flexibility, organizational skills, the ability to lead a diverse team of teachers and the ability to inspire. Specific duties are outlined below.

Teacher Management

•         Recruit, induct and observe new teaching staff with appropriate experience and qualifications.

•         Provide an ongoing professional development program for teachers through teacher training sessions and classroom observations.

•         Carry out and oversee academic staff appraisals.

•         Maintain teaching tools and resources.

•         Keep a record of academic staff hour banks.

•         Submit teachers' salary sheets to the School Director.

•         Organize lesson cover for absent teachers

•         Plan and produce weekly teacher timetables

•         Lead regular teachers' meeting.

•         Attend School Director or company meetings and ensure effective dissemination of information to the academic staff through meetings, seminars and written guidelines.

 

Student Management

•         Prepare student intake administration.

•         Test, induct and place students into classes appropriate to their level, age and nationality.

•         Respond to all student queries or complaints with a professional, caring and enthusiastic manner.

•         Ensure every student has a learning journey whether their stay is for two weeks or nine months and that they leave with a high satisfaction of their language improvement

•         Oversee the technology.

•         Ensure accurate and timely student reports are written.

•         Ensure all students are accurately registered for external examinations.

•         Provide a supportive and professional academic counselling service to all students, providing them with constructive advice on academic issues.

•         The Director of Studies will have some face to face teaching hours as directed by the School Director.

 

Requirements

DELTA qualified or equivalent (CELTA with relevant experience/qualifications may be considered); undergraduate degree or equivalent; experience in management; ability to effectively lead and motivate; customer service minded with commitment to the highest standards of teaching within our classes; a strategic thinker and planner, able to prioritize multiple tasks; excellent communicator, with ability to build and maintain strong relationships with people; resourceful; working to deadlines whilst remaining flexible at all times; able to handle difficult situations with ease and remain clam under pressure; attention to detail; commitment to academic success; ability to adapt in a fast paced, exciting work environment; positive attitude; a strong sense of ownership and the drive to succeed.
