Director of Student Affairs Job Department/School Social Work FT/PT/Temp Full time Location Garden City, N.Y. Director of Student Affairs Social Work JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Student Affairs has two major responsibilities: Director of Student Affairs and Coordinator of Licensing Prep. The Director of Student Services provides academic counseling and educational planning, and oversees academic support services for BSW and MSW students at all sites in collaboration with Center Coordinators and Student Affairs Coordinators. The Director of Student Affairs at Adelphi University School of Social Work is responsible for oversight for the implicit curriculum in collaboration with Program Directors, Student Affairs Coordinators and Center Coordinators that ensure student services (academic support, registrar functions) and engagement initiatives are well-coordinated and effective. The Director will collaborate across departments (Student Financial Services, Office of Academic Services and Retention, Student Access Office, etc.) to integrate resources that empower students in their educational journey, encouraging independence and proactive problem-solving. The Director of Student Affairs supervises the Student Affairs Coordinators at all School of Social Work sites. As the Coordinator of Licensing Prep, the Director oversees all aspects of the planning and implementation of the licensing prep program, in collaboration with the Licensing Committee, licensing advisors, and other stakeholders. The Coordinator leads the school’s initiatives related to social work licensure, collaborating with Academic Affairs to ensure students are equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary to pursue licensure confidently and independently. The Coordinator ensures that licensure requirements are consistently communicated to students and that there are accessible, self-directed pathways for students to follow. The Coordinator As Coordinator of Licensing Prep, the Director supervises the Administrative Assistant working with licensing and the licensing advisors. SALARY INFORMATION: In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000 - $90,000. REPORTS TO:Associate Dean for Academic Affairs RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Academic Counseling, Planning and Oversight + Work with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to identify graduate students at academic risk and in need of academic support services. + Oversee and coordinate site-wide response to support and monitor students on academic probation. + Provide academic counseling and educational planning, and monitor progress of all Garden City MSW students on academic probation. + Work with the Director of the BSW program to identify undergraduate students at academic risk and design systems and programs to promote academic success, support retention, and strengthen program outcomes. + Supervise Student Affairs personnel assigned to various centers and programs. + Provide academic counseling and educational planning, and monitor progress of all BSW students on academic probation at Garden City, Hauppauge, New York City and Hudson Valley/OCCC. + Develop academic supports and deliver programming to support student academic success in BSW and MSW programs. + Provide academic advisement to part-time, provisional and non-matriculated students in Garden City. + Collaborate with the Center Coordinators and BSW Director to design and implement orientation for new students. + Participate in freshman orientation representing the BSW program. + Oversee and coordinate site-wide response to support and monitor progress of MSW students admitted with Provisional Status. + Provide support and monitor progress of all Garden City MSW students admitted with Provisional status. + Liaise with various University offices (e.g., University Admissions, Registrar, Academic Services and Retention, Student Access Office). + Process academic petitions including approval and forwarding recommendation to the proper authority (e.g., Registrar, Office of Academic Services for final determination). + Coordinate academic supports through external (University) resources for BSW and MSW students (e.g., Office of Disability Support Services, writing and statistic tutors, career services). + Collaborate with the Director of Field Education and with the Assistant Directors in developing educational plans for MSW and BSW students demonstrating performance difficulties in field performance. + In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the BSW program director, meet with students returning from leaves of absence to assess their readiness to return to the program and to clear them for returning. + Serves on the School’sStudent ExperienceCommittee addressing the learning environment and related implicit curriculum arenas consistent with CSWE Accreditation Standards. + Provide opportunities and encourage students to participate in activities at each program location and coordinate activities with appropriate faculty and administrative staff at each site and f acilitate the Graduate Social Work Student Association activities and coordinate student engagement in program governance consistent with CSWE Accreditation Standards. Licensing Responsibilities + Design, coordinate, and implement licensing preparation programming including individual and group tutoring, writing workshops, and formal licensing exam preparation activities. + Provide oversight and guidance to the Licensure Prep program, including supervision of the Director of Licensing Prep, licensing advisors and course instructors. Alumni Relations + Provide referrals, guidance and support services to alumni. + Perform all other job related duties as assigned. Committee Leadership: + Co-Chair, Student Experience Committee. + Member, Directors’ Council. + Other committees as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) + Excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills. + Ability to network with appropriate university academic and administrative offices. + Computer system proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet). + Ability to deal courteously and effectively with students, staff and faculty. + Ability to maintain confidentiality. + Ability to multi-task while effectively planning and organizing work activities. + Ability to work independently, exercising good judgment and reasoning in the performance of evolving job duties, while being an effective team member. EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: + M.S.W. is required. + Minimum of 5-7 years direct practice and administrative experience. + Experience as a social work educator, field instructor, or adjunct faculty member is required. + Minimum of 5 years academic administrative experience working in a social work education or related setting is required.
