**Description**
The Master of Science in Genetic Counseling (MSGC) program within the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry in Rochester, NY is seeking a 0.20 FTE faculty member to serve in the role of Director of Research/Assistant Director. The Director of Research/Assistant Director will coordinate, monitor, and evaluate master’s research projects for students enrolled in the MS in Genetic Counseling (MSGC) program. The Director of Research is a member of the leadership team for the MSGC program, and will work closely with MSGC program leadership, faculty, and staff.
**Specific job responsibilities include** :
+ Ensure that students are meeting appropriate timelines and standards for their master’s research projects, which culminate in the writing of a final written dissertation and the passing of an oral examination
+ Monitor the progression of student thesis projects and maintain regular communication with thesis advisors, committee members, and program leadership
+ Collaborate on development and implementation of curriculum/coursework relevant to master’s research projects; teaching as indicated
+ Coordinate and lead a series of thesis development workshops
+ Ensure that students receive appropriate information regarding the IRB process, Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) courses, and other research requirements
+ Facilitate matching of each student with a thesis advisor
+ Facilitate final oral examinations
+ Ensure that all enrolled students engage in adequate and comparable research experiences
+ Participate in admission committee activities
+ Participate in other scholarly activities as related to the MSGC program
+ Other special projects and duties pertaining to student research as appropriate
+ On-site work at the University of Rochester School of Medicine/URMC campus _at least_ one half-day per week; specific responsibilities may also be conducted remotely
**Qualifications**
+ Genetic counselor candidates must have a Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from a program accredited by the _Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling_ ( _ACGC_ ) and have board certification.
+ Candidates who are not genetic counselors may have a complementary professional background other than genetics, however, the candidate must:
o Hold a master’s degree or beyond;
o Have professional board certification in the specific field, if available and applicable;
o Have a minimum of three years of experience in the field;
o Have knowledge of and experience with the genetic counseling profession and practice; and
o Have knowledge and experience with the leadership role assigned.
+ Any candidate must have at least 3 years of experience in their field
+ Any candidate must have experience that includes scholarly work and publications in peer-reviewed journals
+ Any candidate must have strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and efforts
+ Prior experience in serving as a research advisor/mentor is highly preferred
+ Prior teaching experience in a genetic counseling training program is highly preferred
+ Preference will be given to candidates within the University of Rochester who are already involved in research, are familiar with and regularly utilize the University of Rochester IRB, Redcap, and other University of Rochester research resources/tools

The referenced pay range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
