Director of Purchasing 

About the role: 

This position will lead the overall operations of the Purchasing, Receiving and Storeroom Department to ensure that all departments of the hotel have adequate supplies to perform their duties in an efficient manner. The Director of Purchasing will keep abreast of new and alternative products in the market and consult with hotel management on products to enhance cost effectiveness and quality standards and maintain the highest level of integrity and transparency in dealing with business partners and ensure that business is awarded fairly. The Director of Purchasing ensures proper authorization has been obtained for all hotel-specific purchasing contracts and conduct, manage and complete competitive bids in accordance with policy and ensure bids are on file where applicable prior to execution of contracts. In addition, they will maintain harmonious and professional relationship with all departments and Home Office to promote effective purchasing as well as supervise, train and motivate Purchasing Department employees to thoroughly understand all their duties and responsibilities.   

What you will do: 

Responsible for the receiving, documenting and storage process and issues procedures outlined in the policies and procedures manuals, ensuring product pricing, rotation, and inventory levels and storage area sanitation. 

Responsible for the supervision of Storeroom and Receiving Clerks to ensure that the storerooms run smoothly and efficiently. 

Verify all incoming goods with delivery orders, invoices, food specifications, and purchase records to ensure accuracy in type, quantity, price, and quality of items. Uphold safe, sanitary, and well-organized storage practices for all items. 

Ensure all local and corporate policies, rules, internal controls and procedures and safeguards as they relate to the Purchasing Department are in compliance. 

Oversee inventory levels to ensure optimal stock levels while minimizing excess inventory and obsolescence. Implement inventory control measures to improve accuracy and efficiency. 

Maintains security of storage areas through controlled issue hours, requisition, and key control. 

Conducts quality control audits to ensure staff are properly trained and following established procedures. 

Acts as a liaison with business partners and follows the trends with the latest product and market information. 

Contribute to monthly inventory processes for the hotel. 

What you bring: 

Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or minimum 5 years experience in a related field. 

Proven experience in procurement or purchasing management, preferably in the hospitality industry. 

Must have working knowledge of computers. Proficient in Microsoft Office systems, including Word, Excel, and procurement software and systems. Previous experience with Birchstreet preferred. 

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and have the ability to stand for 8 hours. 

Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work with cross-functional teams.     

Elevated Leadership skills and cross-cultural sensitivity, and customer service orientation     

Fluency in English is required for this location and this job requires applicants to have current work authorization in the in the United States.

Schedule & Hours: 

This is a full-time position.  

The ideal candidate must be willing to work flexible hours and days of the week to support the essential functions of the department and division.
