We are seeking a Director of Operations to lead our Seymour CT, manufacturing operations. The Director of Operations will be responsible to ensure that operations, maintenance, facility, production planning, process engineering, continuous improvement, and shipping are all aligned with the short- and long-term organizational goals. This position will focus on effective leadership and coaching of their team and the influence of other business functions to drive day-to-day business results and strategic alignment. The role will lead by example, motivate, ensure a safe and compliant work environment, drive productivity improvements through continuous improvement and automation, and build upon a positive work culture.

Key Responsibilities: WHAT WILL YOU DO

Safety - Support, Sustain and Improve a “Safety-First”  behavior based Culture. Promote safety ownership, compliance and accountability through a zero-tolerance policy.

People – Improve and sustain programs that support employee training, cross training, recruiting and development. A Positive Work Environment is key to sustain growth.

Leadership – Provide direction, guidance, and coaching to the entire manufacturing team, as well as the cross-functional team who support the site. Set expectations and hold staff accountable for excellence in all disciplines. Ensure that the overall team is aligned and working toward a common goal.

Quality - Ensure quality is a priority to reduce customer quality issues by ensuring operator accountability, adherence to quality standards and implement robust quality tracking metrics and root cause corrective action process.

Materials Management and On Time Delivery – Monitor and execute an effective lead time forecast and component stocking program to ensure the plant runs at maximum efficiency based on a plant capacity plan. The position is responsible to monitor productivity, throughput and effectiveness metrics.

Cost Management - Ensure manufacturing gross scrap rate is minimized and usage of materials are tracked to nominal values to reduce material overuse while developing corrective actions.  Corrective actions should be through a combination of Lean Manufacturing techniques, scrap reduction, machine utilization, and efficiencies.

Direct Supervision - Direct, instruct, assist, and check work of subordinates as to schedules, methods, quality issues, standards of performance, safety precautions, company policies and other matters affecting their work. 

Maintenance   - Drive maintenance activities and ensure a preventative maintenance program is in place and       executed for all critical processes.  Investigate equipment breakdowns and/or production delays and implement timely work-around when possible.  Coordinate with maintenance and engineering when necessary.  Where appropriate, make recommendations on implementing corrective action.

Multidisciplinary Relations - Coordinate and discuss with other department heads and staff personnel the flow of work, the acquisition of tools and equipment, the changing of process methods, and the training of production employees.

Lean Sigma – Actively support and participate in the lean six sigma program by helping institute the lean and six sigma concepts in the manufacturing floor and the employees.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE QUALIFICATIONS: WHO ARE YOU

Bachelor’s degree required or 20+ years of experience.Advanced degree in Engineering or Business – DesiredDemonstrates effective leadership skills to all levels. Translate vision and strategy into explicit plans and action. Inspire and motivate people to achieve high performance.Ability to innovate and create strategies that significantly improve practices.Effective communicator (verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal) with influential leadership skills and competence in making timely, effective decisions.Experience with manpower planning and budgeting/forecasting.Strong business and financial acumen, including strong problem-solving skills with critical thinkingPrevious experience in Wire and Cable or Electrical Manufacturing – DesiredPrevious experience in Engineering and Quality – DesiredLean/6 Sigma Certification: RequiredBlack Belt - DesiredDemonstrated Ability to Successfully Implement Lean Manufacturing - Desired
