Director of Nursing

FlexStaff is seeking a Director of Nursing to join our client's team, a leading organization that provides housing, services and programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.   This position is based in Fishkill, NY and will oversee the Hudson Valley region. 

Directs the provision of professional nursing practices throughout the Hudson Valley programs. Develops and ensures implementation of quality nursing policies, procedures, protocols, and related training. Provides technical assistance and resources, as needed, on medical/nursing practices and participates in the development and monitoring of programs for the prevention, control, or investigation of infectious and communicable diseases. Establishes and maintains ongoing communication with agency administrators and external facilities as necessary.

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:

Directly supervises all nurses, Nurse Educator,  MCMC Coordinator, and the Dietician, including, but not limited to, hiring, training, completion of performance evaluations, and issuance guidance/disciplinary action, if necessary. Develop, implement, and maintain an orientation training program for new nurses and other direct reports. Develop, review, and revise (as necessary) policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice to be utilized in the Hudson Valley. Develop and implement a system for monitoring the provision of services and adherence to departmental procedures and standards (i.e., chart reviews). Provides initial and ongoing training to nurses, MCMCs, dieticians, and nurse educators—schedules staff to attend seminars/training programs as needed. Reviews the medical status/conditions of Individuals supported and provides clinical consultation and direction to all nursing personnel. Reviews and ensures implementation of incident reviews, recommendations, and corrective actions for OPWDD Surveys in nursing and dietary services. Arranges for coverage and/or covers in the absence of a nurse case manager. Interprets new regulations (i.e., infection control, medication administration, employee health) and develops policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Ensures various trainings are implemented, including orientation, AMAP, and those geared toward nursing and staff development issues. Provides oversight of nursing budgets, including supplies and pharmacy invoices. Acts as liaison to the pharmacies, internal and external medical facilities, and families as necessary. Provide guidance and training to all nursing personnel in the completion of the Surrogate Decision-Making Committee and CAB packets. Review all completed packets before submission. Standing member of the Human Rights and Incident Review Committees. Participates in other committees and meetings as assigned. Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

NYS Registered Nurse; Bachelor’s Degree required Minimum five (5) years working with persons with developmental disabilities and five years supervisory/management experience Ability to travel to multiple locations. Flexibility with schedules and willingness to work non-traditional hours.
