Director of Nursing
Job Summary: The Director of Nursing will oversee the operations and staff of the Emergency Room (ER) and the Medical Surgical Floor. This role is critical to ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and standards in a critical access hospital setting. The Director of Nursing will be responsible for strategic planning, staff management, patient care, and coordination between departments to optimize patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities: + Leadership and Management: + Provide leadership and direction to nursing staff in the ER and Medical Surgical Floor. + Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective nursing operations. + Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment to promote staff engagement and professional development. + Ensure compliance with state, federal, and local regulations, as well as hospital policies and procedures. + Direct supervision of nursing supervisors to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational goals. + Patient Care: + Oversee the delivery of patient care, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and safety. + Monitor patient outcomes and implement strategies to improve care and services. + Collaborate with physicians, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to coordinate patient care and services. + Staff Management: + Recruit, hire, and retain qualified nursing staff. + Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and mentoring to staff. + Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and optimal patient care. Qualifications: + Education: + Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required. + Experience: + Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience in a hospital setting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. + Experience in emergency nursing and medical-surgical nursing required. + Licenses/Certifications: + Current RN license in ME. + Advanced certifications in emergency and/or medical-surgical nursing preferred (e.g., CEN, CMSRN). + Skills: + Strong leadership and management skills. + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. + Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. + Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. + Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards. Working Conditions: + The role requires frequent walking, standing, and occasional lifting of patients. + Must be able to handle high-stress situations and work in a fast-paced environment. + May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
