No If Temporary, enter End Date: Position Summary The Director of the Migrant Education Tutorial and Support Services (METS) Program at Cortland manages and ensures the provision of instructional and support services, including referrals, based on the needs of migrant children and their families across a 12-county region. This program is funded through a Federal Title I grant, and the Program Director supervises the administration of these funds. This involves supervision of all program staff as well as completion of all activities related to program services, which include: budgeting, purchasing, addressing all issues related to personnel, and completing data collection, analysis, and reporting. The Director works collaboratively with the grant’s Principal Investigator as well as with Migrant Education staff at the NYS Education Department which sponsors the grant. Housed at the State University of New York at Cortland, the Director also engages with campus personnel and community stakeholders.

Major Responsibilities Manages the METS program budget of approximately $950,000 per year and any smaller grants as necessary. Monitors and manages all program activities, evaluates effectiveness of efforts, and adjusts program activities/goals as needed. Establishes program work plan that aligns with all goals in the NYS Migrant Education Service Delivery Plan and is based on evaluations of program, projections of the budget and collected data. Hires, trains, supervises, supports, and evaluates staff in order to implement and maintain high quality direct services, advocacy and support for migrant students and families. Creates data collection plans, assists with data collection and analysis, compiles and completes all grant reports, and addresses questions from NYS education officials related to data and report submissions. Serves as the liaison with NYS Education Department officials and communicates and meets with these officials regularly. Networks with other METS programs in New York State by attending and presenting at the quarterly New York State Consortium meeting and other relevant conferences and meetings as needed. Works with P-12 districts regarding recruitment of migrant students for services and serves as an advocate for migrant students with school districts. Networks with community-based organizations and programs in the Cortland METS counties to better support migrant students and families. Collaborates with SUNY Cortland administrative offices to ensure the successful implementation of project activities.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships Reports to the Dean of the School of Education, who is Principal Investigator of the grant Supervises an office staff of two administrative support staff Responsible for supervision of approximately 10 off-site tutors Interacts with administrators and staff at regional K-12 schools as well as with administrative offices at SUNY Cortland as needed Interacts with program participants and their families Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree OR six or more years of relevant experience in the migrant education program with demonstrated success Demonstrated work experience in a school setting and/or educational environment Demonstrated leadership experience Proficiency using technological tools, including software programs such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree 3-5 years teaching experience in P-12 schools Demonstrated experience planning and evaluating programs Demonstrated administrative and supervisory skills Experience creating and evaluating budgets Experience working with migrant and/or diverse populations Grant writing experience Fluency in a second language
