Director of Finance & Operations

The Director of Finance & Operations leads all aspects of the finance, grants, and operations functions for Airbel. Reporting to the Chief Research & Innovation Officer and a member of the Airbel Senior Leadership Team, you will drive effective and efficient financial oversight, grants management, and operational support across a broad portfolio of innovation projects. You will serve as a highly collaborative and trusted leader, employing a strong client-service approach to cultivate outstanding relationships across Airbel and counterparts in IRC departments globally.
Major Responsibilities● Lead the daily and long-term financial operations and planning of the department and delivery of a portfolio of innovative projects. Ensure exceptional financial management, planning and compliance across multiple donor and funding types.● Drive multi-year analysis and planning to ensure the financial health and stability of Airbel. Provide reporting on R&I’s financial outlook, disbursements, fund balances and risks to R&I leadership.● Own financial and operational risk tracking and management for grants, contracts, and the department. Provide CRIO with regular reporting and strategic analysis of the portfolio, including identification of potential risks and recommendations for mitigation strategies.● Lead a team of Finance, Grants & Operations professionals, ensuring outstanding grants management and compliance, and the provision of high-quality support and portfolio management to Airbel Priority and Practice leadership.● Align and streamline operations and business development processes between Airbel and IRC departments for improved efficiency and effectiveness.● Lead Airbel's operations and support functions, including consultant contracting, procurement, and payments. Continually assess and improve the operational needs of Airbel staff and projects.● Plan and lead the continued development and refinement of department workforce planning, including resource forecasting, project funding efficacy, and balanced employee workloads.● Provide expert guidance and support for donor relationships, contracting, subawards and compliance issues.● Partner with IRC’s External Relations and Awards Management units to support consistent and effective fundraising across the Airbel portfolio. Ensure all Airbel public and private donors receive exceptional reporting, stewardship, and financial management.● Ensure a consistently high level of team performance. Lead, mentor, and empower staff, inspiring and modeling healthy, collaborative intra and inter-departmental working relationships.
Job Requirements:● Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs, Public Administration, Business or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.● At least 10 years of progressive work experience, including significant management experience.● Excellent financial leadership skills, including risk identification and mitigation, financial planning and analysis, business modeling, and executive reporting and presentation.● Strong track record of designing and implementing management systems and processes.● Exceptional leadership and management capabilities, with demonstrated success in building and growing successful teams.● Understanding of core accounting and reporting processes, preferably for International Non-Government Organizations.● Deep familiarity with key donor compliance requirements and challenges for both private and public donors.● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: able to successfully and effectively partner with a variety of people in a multi-cultural environment and work on a virtual team.● Flexible work attitude, proactive and demonstrated creativity: the ability to work productively in a team environment and solve problems creatively with minimal guidance.● Proficiency in English, both verbal and written is required.
Working Environment:  ● Standard office work environment.● This role is open to remote workers in all U.S. States.
Compensation:Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
