Location: Albany, NY Category: Promotional Posted On: Wed Mar 12 2025 Job Description: The Director of Field Education will be responsible for the coordination of clinical experience placements for secondary/adolescent education (MS and BS levels) and overseeing the students' certification/licensure process. In this role, the person will actively coordinate with other field education personnel to ensure continuity and coordination of contact with the BOCES, school districts, and schools. In addition, the Director will work with the faculty in the Secondary/Adolescent Education programs to support students in their field experience, student teaching placements, and internships. Essential Functions: Organization/Facilitation of Clinical Experiences (CE) + Meet with faculty, administrators, and liaisons in local middle and high schools to develop and maintain relationships for field experience (FE) and student teaching placements (STP) across the state + Organize and assign cohorts of students to liaison schools + Pair students with mentor teachers and field supervisors + Work with faculty when issues with CE arise (from either the student, faculty or mentor teacher perspective) + Participate in the organization and facilitation of site supervisor recruitment/preparation, mentor teacher preparation, and CE student orientations + Maintain regular correspondence with principals, liaisons, mentor teachers, and student teachers + Coordinate with staff as needed on management of MOUs/articulation agreement with partner schools + Manage all documentation of CE completion on behalf of programs (time logs, evaluations etc). + Support/maintain rapport with faculty teaching CE courses; assists with problem solving as needs arise. + Assist CE faculty in developing corrective action plans for preservice student teachers needing additional support to succeed in field experience and/or student teaching + Submit milestones associated with CE when appropriate Administrative Duties + Attend Department/Program meetings as needed + Convene meetings with programs to ensure placements and students are successful + Assist in applications process for BS and MS applicants as needed + Support accreditation efforts for the 7-12 programs in regard to clinical partnerships and practice + Coordinate with the PIE Office to attend recruitment events and support recruitment activities + Attend and participate in regional and state meetings as well as yearly SUNY workshops related to student teaching and field experiences + In coordination with PIE and the Dean's Office, prepare and guide students in their requirements for New York State Certification including performance assessments, workshops, and application resources. Teaching + Three courses per year related to the educator preparation programs. Examples include ETAP 512, ETAP 590, ETAP 690, ETAP 201, EEDU 480 Functional and Supervisory Relationships: + Reports to the Chair of the Department of Educational Theory and Practice + Supervises the following positions: Field supervisors (part-time) Job Requirements: + Enthusiasm and excitement for ongoing professional learning + Ability to effectively handle multiple activities and situations simultaneously + Experience managing people effectively Working Environment: + Typical office environment + Pk-12 school settings + Some evening and weekend hours + Ability to travel to schools/partner organizations Job Requirements: Required Qualifications: + PhD/Edd in teacher education or a related field with an emphasis on secondary education by December 2025 + 3+ years of experience in K-12 education as a teacher, school leader, consultant and/or specialist + K-12 teaching certification + Experience mentoring pre-service teachers in a 5-12 setting + Strong writing skills + Exceptional interpersonal communication and leadership skills + Successful track record of effective teaching, curriculum development, and/or education administration + Experience in communities (schools, higher education, community organizations) in which teaching and learning are the main purpose + Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community + Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role Preferred Qualifications: + NYS permanent of professional teaching certification + At least one year of experience with program accreditation + Experience arranging, placing, and or overseeing field experiences in schools for undergraduate and graduate students + Experience serving as a clinical placement supervisor or campus-based educator to students engaged in field placement requirements + Higher education teaching experience + Experience building and sustaining productive relationships with community/school and/or IHE partners Additional Information: This is a promotional opportunity for current UAlbany employees.
