Job Description Summary
As a member of the Hotel’s Executive Team, the Director of Engineering is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance of the hotel with a focus on improving efficiency, profitability, and service levels. Principle duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) include:
Provide leadership, support, and direction to the department in conjunction with hotel and department objectives.Coordinate renovation and capital projects with the framework and time limits established.Prepare and control the annual maintenance budget and assist in preparation of the Capital Plan.Perform inspections to buildings and services and prepare reports for improvements.Ensures necessary permits and licenses for building and physical plant are obtained and kept current.Oversee the hotel’s Preventative Maintenance Program and all government regulations pertaining to building code, health, and fire and life safety programs.Maintains and operates equipment at optimum effectiveness, efficiency, and safety.Ensures compliance with all Engineering departmental policies, standards, and procedures.Manages department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.Manages parts, supplies and equipment inventories effectively by minimizing downtime and maximizing cash flow.Selects and makes purchases of new equipment, supplies and furnishings.Recommends or arranges for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets, product labeling, proper storing, and handling of materials.Follows Occupational Health & Safety regulations.Participates in daily briefings and meetings.Participates in training and continuing education of Engineering staff.Develop/Maximize knowledge of Transcendent to track and follow up on all guest requests and internal cross departmental needs.Recruit, interview, and hire associates; conduct performance appraisals, coach, and counsel, perform progressive corrective action, motivate, develop, and train.Coordinate training for all department individuals for best carrying out their responsibilities and duties.Ensure daily property rounds are conducted.Key member of the hotel’s emergency operations. Must be able to provide expertise in building operations and contingency plans for disaster management.Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management.Skills and Abilities
Able to communicate in the English language. Second language is a plus.Must be a team player.Able to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks.Experience using software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).Able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.Must be physically fit to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and push carts weighing 100 pounds or more.Requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift.Other Requirements
Minimum 5 years of progressive management experience in a large hotel - experience in leading engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/ electrical/plumbing.Great leadership and communication skills.Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical, required.Knowledge of hotel fire standards and procedures.Knowledge of managing Capital Budgets is preferred.Knowledge of building HVAC operations, plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems as well as building codes, fire, and health department requirements.Ability to handle multiple complex projects concurrently with a focus on results.Effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying the concerns raised by associates and guests.Proficient with financial information and advanced arithmetic functions.Additional Job Information/Anticipated
Pay Range
$90,000 - 100,000 and are eligible for a bonus plan.
