Salary Range: $97,350 to $121,690
The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Development will focus on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects with a minimum gift threshold of $50,000. In coordination with the intercollegiate athletics national travel schedule and presidential national travel schedule in priority markets outside of Minnesota, the position will be responsible for engaging national prospects who have the potential to make significant financial contributions to university priorities including intercollegiate athletics, college and school priorities and other campaign priorities. The position is also responsible for acting as University Advancement’s primary development point of contact and coordination for national campaign events where campaign related major gift fundraising is the primary purpose. This position has one direct report.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Fundraising, College/School Support, and Portfolio Management
+ Fundraising
+ The Director of Development will raise major gifts ($50,000 or more) with a national portfolio, by qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of major gift prospects and effectively moving prospects through the donor gift cycle. The Director of Development will maintain in-depth knowledge of institutional priorities and programs and use donor-centric industry best practices to match donor interests with them
+ Portfolio Management and Prospect Collaboration
+ The Director of Development will work with Prospect Development professionals to prioritize prospects, ascertain their stage in the giving cycle, enter and track solicitations, and maintain a balanced portfolio. A proposal-based system is used to track prospect stages and solicitations, as well as to establish and monitor personal performance goals. The Director of Development will collaborate with campus partners on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors. The Director will work with communications and donor relations staff to develop compelling proposals for identified areas of donor interests and will engage campus leaders, faculty and staff to advance relationships with the university as appropriate. Using a donor-centric model of engagement, the Director will work collaboratively with other development and university staff to cultivate prospects with multiple giving interests. The Director will work in partnership with Donor Relations to develop meaningful stewardship plans that help donors understand the impact of their gifts
+ Planning and Performance
+ The Director of Development will prepare an annual work plan that includes strategies and solicitation plans for each donor prospect, including target amounts and target dates and engagement strategies. The annual plan will form the basis of the Director’s work throughout the year as well as serve as the basis for annual performance goals and metrics
+ Reporting and Data Management
+ The Director of Development will complete and file timely contact reports of donor/prospect contacts by utilizing the donor database; maintain accurate and relevant records within the database
+ In partnership with Development management and Prospect Development partners, the Director of Development will track progress towards individual and team goals adjusting strategies when necessary, in order to deliver on strategic objectives
2. National Campaign Fundraising Events
+ + The Director of Development acts as the lead development staff on behalf of University Advancement for planning and executing national events, collaborating with appropriate UA staff on strategies, budgets, staffing, programs, venues, hosts, volunteers, and most important, maximizing attendance at national campaign fundraising events. National campaign events include those outside of Minnesota featuring the university president, trustees, or members of the president's senior staff. Additionally, national campaign events may include donor focused meals, receptions, or tailgates connected to sporting events outside Minnesota. This role does not have responsibility for leading national campaign events for academic units. The Director of Development works closely with alumni engagement, UA’s engagement team, intercollegiate athletics leadership, and the office of the university president
3. Supervision
+ + Supervise one or more development officers or support staff, including establishing performance metrics, overseeing the development of their annual work plans, working with Prospect Development on the composition of their portfolios (for front-line fundraisers) and integrating their work into the overall strategy. Clearly outline specific duties and expectations
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree
+ Minimum of five years of fundraising experience with demonstrated success with soliciting and closing major gifts
Preferred Qualifications
+ Knowledge of higher education environment and familiarity with the characteristics of a comprehensive university
