Director of Design - Construction

Arcadis is seeking a Director of Design - Construction to join our infrastructure team in the Chicago, IL area.

Role description:

In this role as the Director of Design, you will manage the Design for Public Safety projects for an annual Capital Improvement program with upwards of 275 projects per year. These projects are located at Cook County Courthouses, Detention Centers, Cook County Sheriff Facilities). You will also be managing Clients Task Order A/E program, manage and help develop Client’s design standards and Standards of Practice, and coordinate with all User Groups and Stake Holders that report to the Department of Capital Planning and Policy in order to get CIP projects implemented. (Cook County Sheriff, Office of the Chief Judge, States Attorney, Public Defender, Department of Facility Maintenance, etc.)

Role accountabilities:

Oversight of PM staff during the Evaluation, Planning and Design Phases of the project Tracking schedules and reporting to client on progress for all CIP projects in Evaluation, Planning and Design Phases Writing RFP’s and RFQ’s for procurement of A/E services Help PMs develop the scope for projects in conjunction with Director of Construction. Manage the development of BIM implementation process Work with Project Controls team to implement and improve Program Controls for the program along with Executive Team Attend weekly project meetings during design phase of projects to support PMs Work with Executive Team on annual CIP development and overall project planning for the Fiscal year Review design A/E proposals and help PMs negotiate fees for design work Help with the development of Level of Effort estimates for design services Review Design documents for projects at various stages (i.e. Schematic, Design Development, Construction, Permit) to ensure scope of documents is correct. Coordinate with Department of Real Estate Management on various Real Estate projects related to Public Safety user Groups. 

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelors degree or equivalent in relevant discipline 10 or more years' relevant construction experience., including 5 years' of managing small to medium sized projects. Experience with development and implementation of policy.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
